A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Thinking back to one of my favorite tree-related expeditions. These are Brewer Spruce (Picea breweriana) trees, located 3300 ft/1000 m above sea level in the Siskiyou Mountains of SW Oregon.

They have a limited distribution, and are only found at high altitudes in this remote mountain range. Even in July, they were shrouded in fog.

This species is considered one of the most genetically basal, pointing to a North American origin for all spruces.

These two lovely spruces behind the house unfortunately will have to go. The roots are damaging the foundation and creatures climb into the attic.

But since they're the only spruces we've found on the land so far, I'm attempting to clone them first.

One pot has torn off twigs, the other cuts, as experts couldn't agree which will root better.

I put some acorns in the bottom to improve drainage and maybe get some oak sprouts, too :)
