A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

On Sunday of the #CityNatureChallenge, 27 April, I'll be leading the Takahē to Tāone Hīkoi, a nature walk from the Sign of the Takahē to the Botanic Gardens. It's free and everyone's welcome.

We did it last year and it was great fun. We took our time and explored lots of city reserves and parks along the way.

We weave in and out of the Number 1 bus route so if you're not up to the whole walk, you can hop on a bus whenever you like.

EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICE
SPEEDING UP IN SOUTH ISLAND
It is expected that an announcement will be made in about a fortnight’s time regarding the speeding up of the express train services on the South Island Main Trunk line. The running time of the through expresses from #Christchurch to #Invercargill, and vice versa, will be shortened by at least an hour, and the new schedules should be in operation by about the beginning of May.

_The Evening Post_, 12 April 1924:
MOTOR TRAFFIC
SPECIAL POLICE ADVOCATED
(BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 11th April.
The institution of a special #police force for #traffic control was advocated by Mr. Wilson, S.M., in a case where a youth of eighteen years admitted driving a car without a certificate of ability. The evidence showed that defendant had knocked a man down. The Magistrate said the granting of certificates was a farce, as there was no standard of ability, and the fact that defendant had obtained a certificate since the accident was no guarantee that he was fit to drive. The regulation of motor traffic should be under the control of expert motor police.
