Today was a bit odd.
Did over 27,000 steps according to my phone, covered a whole lot of ground, barely took any photos at all. Both of these have the dimmest viewfinders known to man; I should have just taken the Leica.
(Or, alternatively, sourced an M42 lens that had a larger aperture than f/4.5.)
Un collègue m'a confié quelques photos anciennes, fin 19e, début 20e siècle. Des studios de Bruxelles, Mons, Milan, Vienne. Parmi lesquelles 2 ferrotypes. #vintagephotography
Erin/Hartford Wisconsin, July 1936. This is a shot / reverse shot from the corner that at one time had a church, a gas station, and a restaurant further down.
The church is still there but apparently closed. The restaurant is still there. The gas station has been razed.

'In 2019, conservators ... made an intriguing discovery while examining The Design Registers, a collection within the Board of Trade records. Among the designs, they found several early photographs mounted on an unusual black backing material.

Mrs. Koch and Mrs. Nimy shovel snow in front of their homes.
11/20/1959: the birthday girl in blue poses with a ceramic cat she received as a gift.
Who she is? No clue yet. Location: probably Milwaukee, WI. Beyond that, no clue yet.
The last third of this box of slides is truly mysterious and is refusing to give up many of its secrets.

William James Topley’s Fancy Dress Ball Photographs
The fancy dress ball was a popular private costumed event in 19th century Canada. Those invited would portray characters from history, literature, mythology, or fairy tales, or dress in outfits inspired by foreign lands. While guests were expected to conform to societal expectations, they were allowed a few liberties - for example, women were permitted to wear their hair loose and they could reveal more of their legs than a typical ball gown of the day.

Another shot of the same room. It's Christmas 1959 and the TV is on. What do you think they were watching?
Christmas 1959. I love how well preserved the colors and details are.
