Wing drying time! It seemed to me like poor design that a waterbird would have to dedicate so much time to drying out wings, where it seems so vulnerable to predation. Tree-Top Anhinga

This is another photo of an anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) that I saw a few months ago. It is the only anhinga I have seen up close, though I have photographed flocks flying high overhead, looking like little crosses in flight.
