Our Snopes account was hacked on X (formerly twitter) and we got locked out for six weeks. We finally just got it back!

See the full story in the comments below for what we had to do to get someone/anyone at X to help us.

I guess not, as your last post prior to this thread was 17 days ago!

As others have said, maybe there's a lesson to be learned (apart from the account security one).

@ratcatcher @snopes yeah they could post on mastodon where no one would see it or on Twitter which has milllions of people who need facts

Except that they COULDN'T post on X.

And it doesn't need to be either/or in any case.

And they have over 7500 followers on fedi, which is not millions but is also not "nobody".

@ratcatcher @snopes yes, they couldn’t post on Twitter, which is why they worked to get their account back. On Twitter they have a quarter of a million followers and their content would be shared by loads more. There’s no comparison with mastodon.

As I said before, it doesn't have to be either/or.

Given that you only follow 2 people on fedi, and are followed by 9, I suspect your experience of activity on the fediverse may differ somewhat from mine.
