Random interest thing. Ever notice how many trains have seats in blocks facing forwards and backwards? This is not to encourage passenger interaction (though that might work), but rather so the carriage doesn't need to be turned around at the end of the track. The seats are basically non-directional.
So what if the seats are placed all in the same direction? Well, there is a solution for that as well (a foot pedal at the base of the seats is what releases them to swivel)...

@ned I always wondered why they didn't make them like car lanes--whichever way you are standing in the aisle, on your right the seats face with you and on your left the seats face against you (or vice versa, doesn't matter).
@ZenHeathen @ned Yes the car lane direction makes sense if making all seats face inward is not an option. I hate the seats facing each other.
