I'm watching an older animated feature, and Alaska is described as "Russian America." This intrigued me, especially since my dad was a cartographer for the Air Force, stationed at Alaska, before it was a U.S. State.
The theme is familiar: all progress comes out of risk, as long as that risk does not extend to you.
The film "Steam Boy" asks the question: What is the purpose of science, not only what is it for, but whom is it for? To some it is about power, or profit. Even those who think it is for the good of mankind, can easily deceive themselves about the purity of their motives.
Verdict: "Steam Boy" provides some surprisingly insightful commentary about the destructive powers of science and technology.
I would describe the animation style as equal parts clunky and steampunky. Entertaining story with a satisfying ending.
