A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

bazkie, lanparty callgirl

I went to the GP to ask if there were other solutions than to sit on the gender-bureaucrat waiting list for 3+ years (answer: nope; but honestly, didn't really expect it either - was worth a shot though)

He asked me some questions about my gender, fair enough, but then he also asked about my sexual preferences which I found a bit odd. I told him I didn't really see the relevance of whether I'm into women or men, when it comes to what gender I feel I am? Or am I missing something here? He said "he just tried to get the whole picture".

Made me feel a bit weird. I bet it's not malice, but just him being awkward with the subject? He didn't feel too judgy, tho he also felt far from comfortable.

@bazkie I would prefer my doctor keep their nose out of my sexuality unless it's directly related to a problem. Also, sorry to hear the wait is so long. That seems excessive.

@elverkonge yeah that's exactly how I feel about it to. I'm happy I said something about not seeing the relevance; hopefully he picks that up for the next time someone comes to them about a gender issue.

@bazkie did he also ask about your favorite food? Your sports habits? You know, for the whole picture?

@StroomAfwaarts he did not 🤔 but yeah it's odd right? You'd think an experienced GP has seen enough people with gender issues to understand this kind of thing a bit better.. I still think he was just being awkward but it does irk me a bit.

@bazkie It's weird to me that people, even doctors, can't see the difference between who you are, and who you are interested in. Completely separate things.

@bazkie My doctor clarified for me that he wanted to understand what my sexual health needs were, but conceded that his customary way of wording the question might not be appropriate for some trans patients

@nebula hmm what did they mean by sexual health needs? like if you also want gender affirming genital surgery?

@bazkie More of what kind of STI testing I might need or what kind of protection he could make available to me. Separately, my surgeon for bottom surgery also asked a similar question so she could explain what options would work best for me.

@nebula ah right I understand in those cases it can be a relevant question..

now I wonder if my GP asked for that reason too, like if he wondered if I'd want bottom surgery too, but didn't dare ask directly, or something like that 😁

@bazkie My GP knows very little about the process for bottom surgery (he prescribes HRT and stuff all the time, but surgery is outside his practice because he's a physician's assistant) so he's genuinely fascinated when I tell him things about it.

@bazkie OK that's creepy and uninformed on his part. I hope he does make a change to his choices and questions. But, I am sorry you had to go through that! 🤬

@arisummerland thank you.. 🙏🏼 it wasn't super traumatic or anything. I'm very open about my sexual preferences.. I just found it odd that he would ask!
