A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

There are a number of photographers who follow me, and a number who follow them. For those into --as a pastime, for interest, not necessarily professionally--is there a camera you might recommend as a truly budget-friendly, basic digital SLR?

All I'm looking for is to take it with me on walks or holiday, so that I take photos with it instead of with my phone, am more mindful in my photo-taking, and by walking around with it in my hand or around my neck instead of just within the phone in my pocket, I might be paying more attention to what is visually interesting that I might wish to capture, or even sometimes go out with the *intention* of taking photos.

Budget-friendly, basic digital SLR recc's? I'm not completely new to photography, but I'm not that experienced, either. Some creativity options and also some automatic modes would be nice.

Thanks.

@ZenHeathen i got gifted a Canon EOS Rebel T7 and it's pretty good as an entry camera, not that expensive but still has all the features that let you play with (manual or automatic settings) and interchangable lenses. Upgrade options for Canon APS-C DSLR are kind of limited but there's plenty of good lenses out there which aren't $2500 like modern high end ones

So I have:
- Canon EOS Rebel T7
- Kit lens: EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6
I then got:
- 50mm f1.8 ($120ish)
- 50-250mm f4-5.6 zoom ($120ish)
- Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 ($500)
- 100mm prime f2.8 (spare from relative)

I started out with just the camera and then progressively upgraded gear as I wanted to do more things (low light stuff primarily). Other manufacturers will also have entry level offerings, especially if you go look at used or refurb. Highly recommend :D
