I tried to summarise Twin Peaks earlier. Utterly impossible. It's a work of art. My summary went:

If I had to describe it, it's a supernatural murder mystery/soap opera, filled with odd characters that is both hilarious and deeply disturbing. It's beautiful to look at, surreal and at times completely so out there you don't even know what it is anymore.

It is Americana, built on an ancient burial ground. Cherry pie and dark shadows in the ancient woods.

Feel free to take a (no spoilers) attempt at describing it in the replies.

RIP David Lynch :bb:

@TwoClownsEating It’s arguably also the first real “post-television” television show. According to inquisitive critics, the whole premise of the show is to (very knowingly) break with the “murder mystery” format as such, instead opting for a much deeper affective connection to its characters and to the long arc of the story. openculture.com/2024/10/twin-p

Open CultureTwin Peaks Actually Explained: A 4‑Hour Video Essay Demystifies It AllI don’t know about you, but my YouTube algorithms can act like a nagging friend, suggesting a video for days until I finally give in. Such was the case with this video essay with the tantalizing title: “Twin Peaks ACTUALLY EXPLAINED (No, Really)”.

@adoranten

I'm going to watch the YouTube video, it looks interesting and having watched TP twice already, and going in for a third watch, I'd like some closure of some description (I know I won't really get this).

It certainly was a new format that reflects how many shows are made now.

I'm not sure there was ever a complete story to begin with, Twin Peaks was a place in Lynchs head that he could visit. The show was a metaphysical soap opera set in this place, the murder and investigation was the starting point upon which it launched, but it was as similar to Dynasty and Beverly Hills 90210 as it was a crime show. Had it not been cut after 2 seasons I think the soap element would have come through more, there was no ending planned in my opinion.

Sorry that was a rather rambling reply.
