Via Rupar:
Trump on Canada: "I spoke to Governor Trudeau ... they don't have military protection, and you take a look at what's going on out there ... people are in danger ... they need our protection."
Okay, couple of things:
"Governor Trudeau." No, Canada is not one of your states, you vile jerk.
"Need our protection." So now Trump is on an another fear campaign to scare Canadians into buying into his BS.
Nope. #Canada says
@GottaLaff
he is not only on a campaign to scare Canadians he is trying to normalize taking over Canada in the eyes of the US citizens exactly the same strategy as Putin and Ukraine!
Too many Americans know nothing about Canada and will believe him.
@SnowshadowII I didn't say "solely"
@GottaLaff Sorry, bad word choice. I edited, better?
@SnowshadowII WAY better. Now I can boost.
@SnowshadowII @GottaLaff
You & Laffy have given me some passion for my northern neighbor !!
I say thank you. I'm right below you in Michigan. Trudeau IS A PRIME MINSTER. Donnie's indescribably arrogant, BUT DAMN, (this just REALLY pisses me off)
@heatherlynn8571 @GottaLaff
I will tell my daughter to wave in your direction next time she is near the Detroit River.
@SnowshadowII @GottaLaff Okay, let's say he actually tries to pull this stunt. Would any of the USA's enemies just shrug it off? China? Russia? The UAE and their pals? With all our natural resources?
Never mind the reaction of the rest of the Commonwealth and our other allies.
And never mind the anger that's building here in Canada. Yes there's fear, but there's also anger that's been simmering for a very long time.
Sure, many Americans will buy into it. Insular is what it is. Corporate media will never broadcast the facts, and let's face it, most people don't actually consume the news.
But I think we need to take a big breath. Look at the ongoing distraction tactics, the fantasies of a wannabe dictator, and the house of cards the individual not worth naming is building. His alleged allies hate him and each other, and that's just for starters.
Also worth noting: Underestimating us is a mistake. Never confuse "nice" with "weak."
@StaceyCornelius @SnowshadowII Don't underestimate Trump either. Never confuse blather with could never happen
@GottaLaff @SnowshadowII Not saying it could never happen. Looking at the bigger picture. Fear is the desired result – fear without thinking it all through. I think that's what he counts on.
@StaceyCornelius @SnowshadowII Absolutely, but people don't take what he's saying seriously.
It's not a distraction, it's intention.
@StaceyCornelius @SnowshadowII I'm taking a break.
See you later. xo
I realy do not think we should in any way be the least bit dismissive of the threat we are under. Fear can be a good motivator, it is the brain's warning system to get up and DO something.
Americans were dismisive of Trump thinking all the guardrails would protect them just as you are now--- look what's going on there.
@GottaLaff I am more frightened when I hear this than I am of Trump because people really are not preparing for what they are about to face! Really TOUGH times are ahead.
@SnowshadowII @GottaLaff @StaceyCornelius
The Tyee has some thoughts on how a military invasion might actually go down. The #USA seems to forget that it does not have a good track record at invading other nations, and Canada is not some third world door mat.
Such a war would tear the US apart once and for all.
https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2025/02/13/Do-Not-Test-Us-Trump/
@sleepy62 that's an excellent article. I like the Tyee, they have intelligent and courageous staff.
@sleepy62 I caught that article. It's fascinating. Clearly I'm no geopolitics expert, which is why I wondered aloud about the USA's enemies, the Commonwealth, and our other allies (thinking about the EU).
I may be overly optimistic about our own resistance should the worst happen, but I have a funny feeling our response would be... surprising. To the bad guys.
Anyone else exhausted by it all? Let's meet up for a relaxing cup of tea IRL someday.
@StaceyCornelius @SnowshadowII @GottaLaff
I think most would simply look at the US military and then at the Canuck military and just laugh and think it'd be over 1 day. But that's not how it would go down.
It only took a dozen al Qaeda operatives to shut the country down. The country still has not fully recovered.
@StaceyCornelius @sleepy62 @GottaLaff
"Tea IRL" I would love this however I am stuck here.
@sleepy62 @SnowshadowII @GottaLaff @StaceyCornelius Canadians citizens would go full on Red Dawn
@CodieneC Meet you at the barricades, comrade.
@StaceyCornelius I'm actually a pretty good with a gun or bow plus I have a slingshot :p
@CodieneC Ha! My specialty is renos and power tools, so maybe sabotage?
@StaceyCornelius Power tools be good along with trap building :)
@CodieneC Finally, all those Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner cartoons will pay off!
@StaceyCornelius We didn't spend all those hours watching for nothing!
@CodieneC And who programmed it on the CBC back-to-back with Monty Python??? Those were the days.
@StaceyCornelius @CodieneC
Ha, Ya But the Acme corporation did pretty well.
@sleepy62 There was one Bugs & Yosemite Sam cartoon where they both inherited a castle. Bugs did the "saw the hole in the floor" gag on Sam... and the animators actually repeated it. He fell for it (pun intended) twice.
I didn't notice that back in the day, but when I saw it on video several years ago I was in awe. So good.
@StaceyCornelius @CodieneC
Bugs Bunny is my hero. Best cartoon ever!
@CodieneC Damn right we would!
@SnowshadowII Not being dismissive. I see the threat, and I also see the distinct possibility of being carved up between the USA and Russia.
I'm also asking, out loud, what the consequences could be. What the bigger risks are. This is much uglier than a lot of people seem to realize.
@StaceyCornelius
Sorry I misunderstood.
Yup. The chances are extremely high Russia and the US will be battling over our resources. In our backyards.
It is more ugly than may people realize.
Let's hope Trudeau is successful with reaching out to other countries.
@SnowshadowII TBH it's the first thing I thought of when he started running his mouth but I didn't want to add to the anxiety. He sees us as a weak corporation that can be taken over. Can he do it on his own, without ol' Vlad taking exception? Well then, maybe cut a deal.
While I see the threat, I also see there are still grownups in the larger room. The European statement in support of Ukraine gives me some hope. Who knows what will happen next, but maybe the growing domestic gong show will distract him.
With my own survival on the line, I have to default to a fighting stance. Apologies if that made my message unclear.
@StaceyCornelius No apologies from you are necessary.
If we don't "default to a fighting stance" we are really stupid, imo. When someone has us by the throat and we are docile, unconcerned than I am very worried about that person.
@StaceyCornelius @GottaLaff @SnowshadowII The majority of Canadians like to think before they panic & react. #thankfully the majority don't have that 'shoot first' mentality.
@CodieneC No we don't but if Americans troops cross our border we will shoot first then ask questions.
@StaceyCornelius @SnowshadowII @GottaLaff The US' adversaries would *love* something like that happening. It would destabilize and/or destroy every major alliance the US is involved with while removing a bunch of shaky restraints on everyone else who wants to roll the clock back to "my country isn't big enough" days.
@SnowshadowII @GottaLaff someone should make a video of Canadian missiles raining down on Washington, DC just so Amrricans are prepared.
@SnowshadowII @GottaLaff Canadians should always refer to him as felon or understudy
