Young people aged 14 would be allowed to work overnight during the school week in legislation championed by DeSantis
OK, child labour today, one assumes the resumption of (formal) slavery to follow. I suspect Florida has few chimneys that need cleaning, but with what DeSantis is doing with educations may mean that kids need to do something to occupy their time. Reeves are you watching for your next idea?
@Wen That will be factories, abbatoirs, and other dangerous jobs that are underpaid and not monitored. Vile. Child enslavement. Those kids will be likely abused too and no one will listen .
@HarriettMB @Wen but it will make an important contribution to general illiteracy. Apparently 50% of the US population does not have a level of literacy beyond primary seven. And 25% are reckoned to be functionally illiterate.
This kind of child employment will increase the levels of illiteracy and lack of education into another generation, facilitating a totalitarian dictatorship and damaging democracy.
@peterbrown @Wen If De Santis has kids, his should be first in line to do these jobs, and manage school the next day. IMO any of these new rules/bills/laws should be mandatory for their politicians families to spend a minimum of six months doing (in the same financial and physical situation as everyone else would be) before they are brought into law.
@HarriettMB @Wen Having kids work overnight is child abuse in itself. Teens need adequate sleep for proper brain development. This bill would create a class of ppl who don’t know how to do anything else but menial labor. Florida teens are already allowed to work 30 hrs/wk. They just want to be able to fully exploit children and it’s so awful.
