I've heard smell is closely tied to memory, and I believe it because sometimes I get what I can only describe as hallucinatory smell flashbacks (I can actually smell it for a very brief moment). This morning I was driving to work and suddenly had the smell memory of being surrounded by shitty, cheap light beer. Anybody experience anything like this?
@the_etrain All the time, yes. It can be triggered by a memory, something we see or hear or touch. You're normal.
@SnowshadowII
Oh, I'm not normal. I knew that part already.
@the_etrain oops sorry to disturb your self-image. lol.
@mayintoronto @SnowshadowII
I knew this day would come. I'm still not prepared.
@the_etrain @SnowshadowII I am in mourning.
Maybe not. We have the same experiences and I *know* I am weird.
Ok. I take back my comment about "normal"
@the_etrain I can remember as a child walking down the street past a pub door and receiving a blast of the smell of beer and cigarettes. A fantastic smell! So inviting, with the promise of the great things that adulthood had to offer.
@the_etrain the Proustian pub
@the_etrain Powerfully, yes. The right combination of scents can induce a full-sensorium flashback.
@the_etrain pipe tobacco = dad.
@the_etrain it feels weird to me when I’m at a community baseball field and I don’t smell stale light beer
