'Doctors called me attention-seeking when I was suicidal'

@br00t4c My wife told me the same thing.
@roknrol When you're a woman in the healthcare system you are too often an "attention seeker" to be strategically ignored and dismissed, which regularly leads to catastrophic outcomes. I know you know I just needed to vent. I've seen the "smile more, Sweetheart" treatment handed out in healthcare settings with my own eyes. We had a lady in Canada with like a necrotic gall bladder or something that they kept sending home until she collapsed from sepsis in the waiting room on her 8th return visit
@br00t4c I'm not sure why people have such a hard time believing other people. I *sort of* get it when it's a stranger; you have no prior relationship with them and can't know if they're being melodramatic or not. But when it comes from family - especially family trained in such things - it's a pretty nasty feeling.
Meanwhile, as my wife's health declines I have been relentless in telling her to not let the "authorities" dismiss her symptoms - specifically because women are generally not believed.
I don't get it. "Believe people until you have a reason not to" is a much better system than "don't believe anyone at all until they die".
