All those people who defeated Fascism, just for it to come back.
All those vaccines developed to eradicate disease, just for them to come back.
All that work to protect the environment, just for us to destroy it.
All that progress in striving for a more equitable society, just for some to turn back the clock.
Faulkner once said that "the past isn't prologue; it's not even past."
It's time to take back what is being stolen from all of us.
@kimlockhartga The war never ended for the Confederates, we all know that.
"The South Will Rise Again" wasn't conjecture.
But it took collusion, and cooperation to make this come to pass. And now we know explicitly that Greed has no party affiliation.
-After all this 'blue across the board' bullshit.
-After blaming the fucking voters, instead of their own cowardliness and lack of vision.
-Deciding Trans folks are now politically expendable.
-The fucking wishy-washy "We need to reach across the aisle" placation.
I don't think the 'good ones' have enough to take the DNC.
Why they aren't announcing a third party right now, fucking mystifies me.
I'd been independant after they screwed over Gore, but still, voting the lesser-evil was mandatory.
There is no 'lesser evil' now
@BlurryBits @kimlockhartga
Yeah.
There is a lesser evil.
Get a grip.
@Okanogen@mastodon.social @kimlockhartga Then have fun voting for a cabal that will never win an election again.
They have irreparably lost the left.
@Okanogen @BlurryBits @kimlockhartga The only way a lesser evil can be created is if the perpetrators of the current evil get a little shorter. About a head's length shorter.
@BlurryBits @kimlockhartga not sure about other states, but Floriduh doesn’t allow independent or NPA voters to participate in primaries, and since we only have R and D primaries…
@apriloq @kimlockhartga And there hasn't been a viable Independant Candidate in order to make any legal challenge with.
Myself, not getting to vote in the primary has been a non issue.
What's green party doing? They have some sham of a primary, does Florida law interfere with it?
As they are, primaries are'nt the meat and potatoes of the election cycle. And can you really say that was a dem-primary this cycle? Or that the republicans had one either?
Because if it was, then why bother?
The whole thing needs reformation.
@BlurryBits @kimlockhartga reform is most definitely needed, and damn near impossible to achieve. I have little hope it will occur in my lifetime (about to hit 73), and it’s going to take an influx of intelligent people with the desire to make it happen in FL. There are so many racist people here that it seems insurmountable.
@apriloq
Not sure about other states, but Illinois doesn't require you to declare a party when registering to vote, and undeclared voters can vote in either primary. (But not both.)
@pockets @BlurryBits @kimlockhartga if only that were across the board, but dang those states’ rights. For national positions, I think national standards should apply.
@kimlockhartga Fascism like cancer has a tendecy to reappeare.
@kimlockhartga this post says everything.
@kimlockhartga Who are rolling back these rights?
Conservatives are.
@kimlockhartga - Absolutely
@kimlockhartga This is one of those posts that gets boosted again every time I see it. This should be on a billboard in every town in America.
@kimlockhartga “The past is never dead. It's not even past.”
― William Faulkner, Requiem for a Nun
That line from the most Irish of plays, Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night, keeps coming back: “The past is the present, isn’t it? It’s the future, too.” Time in contemporary Ireland is not strictly chronological – the 2020s are continually interrupted by the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It was possible for an English novelist to write that “The past is a foreign country”. But not for an Irish writer. For us, it’s not an exotic place we might occasionally visit – it insists on visiting us

@kimlockhartga and look at the people who are bringing it back, none of them fought, nor their parents or grandparents....
@kimlockhartga Time is a dumb circle
@kimlockhartga Maybe we need to get better (as a species) at recognising and isolating those among us who have zero empathy. That seems to be a common factor among fascists and their followers.
How we would do that though, I don't know.
@princess_uncles absolutely
@kimlockhartga @princess_uncles
It's like living in Star Wars.
Yay! The Emperor is dead!
WTF you mean, "He's back."?
@princess_uncles @kimlockhartga or we could focus on actions, so we don't risk primarily targeting disabled people. People can be kind without empathy. People can ignore empathy to be cruel. Someone having or not having empathy isn't a good enough indicator of how much harm they'll do.
@raphaelmorgan @princess_uncles also important. Good point.
@kimlockhartga agree. freedom is something we should take care of all the time, otherwise it will disappear
@kimlockhartga The past is only the past if you learn from it.
Studying antiquity gets the excuse that it's already learned from. No thanks. Study the past c. 100 years./gen
@873 @kimlockhartga totally bookmarking that one!
@kimlockhartga
and the Snopes Clan are having a party in the Oval office.
@kimlockhartga "All those people who defeated Fascism" are mostly dead.
kneecapping history class has turned into the gift that keeps on giving, at least if you're the gop
@kimlockhartga Fascism was not defeated. I heard it direct from Francisco Franco.
@kimlockhartga You can't defeat an idea. Even a bad one.
@markvonwahlde this is terrifyingly astute.
