beige.party is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Unpopular Opinion:

There are 12 games in a season.
There are 12 teams in SEC conf.
You should play all 12 teams.

There are justifications (local rivalries) for nonconference play, but it seems a shame to miss some power matchups in the regular season.

What say you?

Also, I'm watching the UAB vs. Arkansas game, and I think it would be good to whistle any play dead when a player's helmet comes off. I hope that kid will be okay, but after his helmet was knocked off, the play continued and he was tackled and landed on his head. He did raise his hand up from the stretcher to let everyone know that he might be okay.

@kimlockhartga Yes! I hate all these unsporting match ups.

@dvmheather It seems criminal that Georgia does not play South Carolina.

@kimlockhartga Oh wow, I agree. If the helmet comes off, stop the action.

@kimlockhartga

My interest is college basketball, but I assume the same negotiations happen in bashball. Big revenue teams negotiate matchups over multiple years: team A says to team B, ok we'll give you a big money home game this year, but only if you do the same for us next year. The schedule makers work with those agreements, or find new jobs. The stompings of the low revenue teams are filler around the big money negotiated matchups, but the low revenue teams like the money they make. And the players like the exposure and the chance they'll have a lifetime tale about the time they dunked on so-and-so. There's also teams looking to improve their strength of schedule numbers in anticipation of a march madness seed.

Anyways, just saying there's too much moolah involved to permit schedule makers to do the equitable and sensible thing.
