A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Once again thinking about how screwed up we are when our phone options are only iPhone or android phones

@farah I’ve heard people mention Linux phones, but really what we need are Linux-based data-only handheld devices, because let’s be honest, do we *really* need the “phone” part?

Still a tall order though.

@farah I mean, yeah, hardware wise, it sucks when we need a smartphone. I'm still holding out for Linux phones, but will soon update my Pixel to #GrapheneOS.

I'd love to order one of these though:

@farah
Yeah but with some effort you can root some androids and replace the ROM. I'm currently trying to get past Samsung's secure boot nonsense to flash Lineage OS on a GalaxyTab.

@pthane @farah
I was trying exactly that before xmas so I could take a tablet instead of hoiking my hefty laptop on holiday.
I gave up as my PC's a Linux & no work around available for my lack of computery experimentalism.

Did manage to get a Sony Ericsson XA2 to run Lineage OS though & best thing I've ever done to an android.

Good luck with your Samsung Tab battle.

@farah hey Blackberry, where you at? You'd have a lot of home grown support if you started up again about now:)

we were already in trouble because of this duopoly 5 years ago, when I launched the 0G Project, but it didn't make progress on it, while the gravity of the problem has only grown worse 😞
