beige.party is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Was happy to come across someone in the wild sharing this great article by my old boss Tara Robertson. I still think about it when I hear idealistic talk about digitising materials by marginalised people to save them. Things can be more complicated.

"I will look at the digitization of On Our Backs (OOB), a lesbian porn magazine that ran from 1984–2004, as a case study of where digitization and publishing this content online is inappropriate."

@djm62 It is, thanks!

Though before reading it, I'd put out there that the "publishing them online" part is not really what I'm advocating everyone does, with current queer online culture.

I'm more about getting a copy of online things to hoard offline, for Reasons, and then just sitting on it while we wait and see what happens.

But perspectives like this are informative. And also, part of queer culture! :)

@erosdiscordia I'm wondering what the shelf-stable offline storage looks like. I'd be happy to have a cache in the attic, but having it intact and legible would be another challenge without equipment from antiques roadshow.
