TheJen is fucking pissed

If you're worried about your credit score, game that shit too. Student loan debt reported? Contest it. They have to go back and prove the debt is yours. As it gets sold, resold, etc, the documentation gets lost, misplaced, names spelled wrong, Yada Yada.

You keep these credit reporting companies spinning to prove it. This keeps it off your report for other purposes. I have done this FOR YEARS.

They can't prove I owe it anymore. For all intents and purposes, I never had student loans. Nobody can find the documentation anymore.

Game the system, my loves. They fuck you, fuck them back.

@TheJen This. A corporation won't think twice about declaring bankruptcy to get out of paying debts, but they rely on you being honorable and responsible and trying to pay yours.

@TheJen When I worked at a FinTech, some of the devs there had 800+ scores. Because, they had inside knowledge of how that scoring system worked, as they had to code it in to the platform.

It went something like this: when you open a new card, it's an event, but only one event can show per day. Ergo, opening 50 cards on the same day is 1 event. Then you carry or xfer some balances around to get that debt:credit ratio to skyrocket.

Boom, 800+

It's amazing how shady those credit scores are under the hood.

@kajer @TheJen What is funny about those scores is that I use cards to handle most of my spending and pay them off. My score usually hovers around 770 to 780. I got laid off in '23 and cut my spending until I got a new job. My score went to 805 which is a personal best.

I had zero income.

@TheJen the student loan people can’t even find me right now. We moved before the repayment pause ended and my college email address was gone by that time. They wouldn’t let me into my account any other way, so they have no clue where I’m at right now, which will probably come back to bite me eventually, but it’s not like I could predict when stuff was going to go nuts

@TheJen@beige.party i love it!

i've been doing something similar with my credit cards. subscription that i want to cancel but there's no way to do it online? do a chargeback! the credit card company will refund the money immediately, then it goes back to the merchant who can contest it, but if it's a small amount of money they'll likely just accept it because it's more trouble than it's worth

@TheJen can absolutely attest that you can often get loan companies on technicalities. There are so many technicalities and employees are human. (I uses to work for a mortgage company trying to find and correct mistakes on loan documents. There were many mistakes, and sometimes we couldn't track down borrowers to get documents corrected. 100% certain this happens with other debt as well.)

@secretsloth @TheJen

Is there like... an instruction manual for this? Or do you all want to do a class or where did you learn about this?

@melanie @secretsloth I learned it from some debt collectors who worked in the same building as me while we were on smoke breaks.

It's so simple:

Request your free full credit report from each of the 3 agencies. You can get a free one once per year.

Comb through it. There is a dispute function on their websites for each debt item. Click it. State your reason for contesting it in the drop down menu, my go to is "this is not me" or some such.

That's it.

Used to you had to send actual paper letters to do it, but no more.

I contest EVERYTHING EVERY YEAR with the exception of mortgages or vehicle loans that I am actively paying. Basically anything with a title attached, I leave alone.

@TheJen
Thank you very much. I will spread this around.

I love the way you learned it. Deeply human.
@secretsloth

@TheJen
The last bank I worked for didn't even train their staff where the files went, let alone how to properly organize them. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if whole mortgage paperwork was lost or mixed in.

@TheJen
And that's EXACTLY what I began to do in 2019 when I figured out how they are fucking me, so I began to fuck them back, all the way!

@TheJen My credit history has long shown that I took out a large student loan and then paid it all back the next month. I wasn't even in school then, so I challenged it. They got all pissy and insisted it was real. So I dropped it because if anything it helped my score rather than hurting it, but yeah, no one actually has a clue what's going on.
