We are often asked if we are willing to die for our truths, forget that, be willing to live for them. In a moment in our history where the few are trying to erase the accomplishment of the many, it is up to us to keep our stories alive. They want to hide the history and accomplishments of People of Color, women, LGBTQ+, and many others. We don't need the government to tell our stories, they should, of course, but we can tell them, we can archive, we can preach our own gospel. We will all die, this is our chance to live. Don't let them erase the good you and your ancestors put into the world. Don't let them take your history and your joy.

I am willing to die for my beliefs. But I am a pacifist, and I am not willing to kill for them.
Just the same, as you say, I would rather be prepared to live for them. I've already given money to a number of orgs that are preserving what these creepy nazi fuckwits are trying to destroy.
@RickiTarr I actually feel optimistic that we are going to win. It's like you say: the few are trying to erase the accomplishments of the many. Despite all the people out there who have already swallowed the Flavor-Aid, there are enough of us out there that *know* history, who, alongside all those people who are now figuring it out, will stand up and say, "heck, no!"
They have overplayed their hand and they're going to get a rude awakening. This is not the fait accompli that they think it is.
@RickiTarr Very true. All empires and fascist regimes established by people with an insatiable desire for wealth and the ability to buy power, collapse under the weight of incompetence. In the process truth and knowledge are destroyed, but civilisation rebuilds as a result of people`s memories and values.
Neolithic civilisation was destroyed in the bronze age by violence, but mathematics was "rediscovered" by Greeks and Indians probably from folk oral tradition and memory.

I'm not in the US, but Don Don isn't going to stop at the border, Australian researchers have already been bullied over DEI
Now I transitioned surgically around 30 years ago, so even if I wanted to, which I don't, I can't realistically go back

I lived in fear for half my life
I tried to deny who I was
Trans women were vilified back then, more than now
I tried a lot of things to make my transness go away, none of which I'm proud of, or going to repeat, or going to discuss & none of which worked
Asking for help was the last of a long list before the other final option
I wish I'd done that a lot sooner, as I've never been happier since
So I'd rather not have to die for my beliefs
But I doubt I'll be given a choice

We're a fly speck on the world stage, we have no power, we told our closest allies to go fuck themselves with Brexit, we have no resources or industries of our own

We need to choose between allying with Democracy or with Fascism
And it looks like we're choosing fascism from what I can tell

@staringatclouds Apologies. When you referred to Australian researchers I just assumed. They still have to comply with Australian law. They can't do what Trump wants, even if it means losing American funding.

@RickiTarr It's always worth remembering that they want to suppress history and participation for the same reason they all wigged out when Tim Walz called them weird. Their entire con requires everybody seeing their positions - not just white, straight, etc., but violent and dishonest - as normal and popular. The con doesn't work, if everybody can see dissenting views.
@RickiTarr Straight white males are a minority of the population. Women, black people and other people of colour, LGBTQI people, migrants, people with disabilities when added together vastly outnumber Straight White Males with wacky ideas.
Now you can add to that number all the white males who've been sacked by Musk.
Stand together.
People of good will are the majority I care about.
And I think there are far more people of good will out there of every stripe and variety than there are people like the ones running the place, holding all the wealth, and committing acts of aggression towards Innocent people.
That has to be true, or we wouldn't still be here chatting on the web. We'd be out living in some kind of Grave of the Fireflies hellscape.
Ordinary people are the best people. The ones who want to "move fast and break stuff" or "make a name for themselves" need a shrink -- not power and notoriety.
I'll take boring, work-a-day people over high flyers any day of the week.
@IntentionallyBLANK @RickiTarr Fine, but just in case you mistook my meaning - that list is all the groups being targeted by DOGE/ the Trump administration. They are discriminating in favour of straight white males. This post is not about who I personally favour.
Nope, got it. Just saying that even people who think they can get ahead in this regime should know Musk and Trump don't have any friends. This brand of fascism is cannibalistic.
@anne_twain I don't think your separating out only straight white men adequately represents their numbers. Many straight white women are voting and supporting the straight white men's agenda, even actively voting against their own best interests. Giving white women a pass because they're women isn't really an accurate representation.
And there have been too many reports of people being fired / laid off in this mess who still support the current president.
@cstephens2 @RickiTarr It's not me who separated them out, it's the Trump/ Musk administration. They're the ones trying to oppress and make invisible all those minorities. The only group they're not going after is straight white males.
