Trains are cool as hell.
Bridges are cool as hell.

A Train going over a Bridge, ohhhh baby!

@RickiTarr Evening Ricki 🤗🥰

Enquiring minds want to know …

What about a train going …. Under the bridge?

(Asking for a friend obviously! )

@MAJ1 That’s great too, right under train going through a tunnel.

@RickiTarr Oh I love being on a train going thru a tunnel - I dream of going on the one that goes thru the Alps - not that that will ever happen, Mrs S being as allergic to long distance travel as she is - but a squirrel can dream!

@MAJ1 @RickiTarr Have you ever wanted to go on a train that travels under the ocean?

@mike @christopherbrown @RickiTarr Evening Mike 👋😊

Have yet to enjoy the delights of the Eurostar. I’m mildly jealous!

@MAJ1 @mike @christopherbrown @RickiTarr

I'm not jealous, I'm totally feeling flight response for going to the EU. It's the only fear that makes sense./gen

@MAJ1 @christopherbrown @RickiTarr

You can be properly jealous.

I've been all the way from London to Venice on the train, via Eurostar

@mike @christopherbrown @RickiTarr Oh wow, I would love to do that trip, but Mrs S doesn’t like travel!

Hope you ‘ve had a good day mon ami. 😊🫶:party_major_squirrel:🖖

@christopherbrown @RickiTarr I would - but only if they made it so one could see the fish.

@RickiTarr Unless of course, it is still on its rails, and traversing terra firma.😁 @rrb @MAJ1

@infinimatt thankyou for that delightful start to my Saturday 😁@RickiTarr

@RickiTarr What about Jeff Bridges doing some training on a train going over a bridge?

@lydiaconwell @RickiTarr Jeff Bridges, wearing britches, training in a drain on a train going over a bridge. Between ridges. In the rain.

@RickiTarr Where I used to live we had trains behind us (about 400 feet). A few blocks away was a bridge over the tracks. We used to stand on the bridge and wave to the engineer. They'd blow the horn as they approached the tracks. Talk about cool, the vibration of the train on that overpass was amazing too.

You get used to hearing trains and they don't disturb sleep after a while. Right after 911 they paused the route. We woke up because the train *didn't* go by.

@RegGuy You do, I still find it to be a soothing sound

@RickiTarr This is a 45 minutes drive from where I live.

@RickiTarr It is. And this pic was taken from a (very good) restaurant overlooking it!

@RickiTarr Come to Arizona and you can stand under the train bridge while the train goes RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD.

@RickiTarr You should come over for the Forth Rail Bridge, then, or the Garabit viaduct in France.

@BashStKid Ohhh yes, that would be so good Viaducts are some of my favorite infrastructure

@RickiTarr And there are trains going into tunnels!

@RickiTarr

Now, let me tell you about trains and tunnels…

@airwhale Yes, tunnels are in the Top 5 for sure

@RickiTarr There's a place on the Coast Starlight, heading into California from the Northwest, after countless hours of snaking through canyons (I've learned to be awake for it) it might be Redding, anyway, after you're kind of tired of snaking through canyons it's suddenly on a trestle, way above the town below, you can't see the trestle, you're flying for a minute. Then you go back to sleep. Trains are great.

@RickiTarr I love old trestle bridges and 'level bridges'. and the remains of old ones. Like the one at Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lethbrid

en.wikipedia.orgLethbridge Viaduct - Wikipedia

@RickiTarr here is a better picture of the Lethbridge viaduct from 1978, with train: flickr.com/photos/msdwilkie/38

@bhasic
think i played the 1st edition without color ... loved it
@RickiTarr

@RickiTarr The Rendsburg high-level bridge is such a highlight of a (very flat) journey that everyone gets out to watch

@trantion @RickiTarr I always pass this one coming from Hamburg when I visit my dad who lives near Flensburg. It always feels like looking down on a model village or being at the Miniaturwunderland. 🙂

@RickiTarr Please enjoy this bridge near me (in Newcastle). Train goes on the top, bus goes underneath. Double the fun!

@RolloTreadway @RickiTarr wait, is that why it's called the high level bridge?

@trantion @RickiTarr It's called that simply because it ran a railway at the high level between central Gateshead and Newcastle, as opposed to the previous low level bridges down at the quayside.

@RolloTreadway That's a really nice photo. And quite a lot of bridges… @RickiTarr

@RolloTreadway @RickiTarr Love the bridges in Newcastle! They're so photogenic.

@RickiTarr ah, but consider this: viaduct, trains, on a viaduct

@RickiTarr Portland, Oregon, and Martinez, California. I try not to think about earthquakes.
