UPDATE: GOAL REACHED! Please help other marginalized folks in need here as my mutual aid goal has been reached now. Massive THANK YOU, FEDI FRIENDS
Bad news. My left ankle foot brace orthotics funding request was denied today. I'm now paying out of pocket for it. It costs $2600. I can pay it but will then be short for 2 utility bills balances owing & some medications costs for April. I picked up a wedding photography side gig for May so will be OK for upcoming months.
I need #MutualAid donations to help pay for:
- partial hydro bill due April 4th, I paid most of balance with $310 owing. We got a disconnection notice letter today & they gave us until Friday.
- $244.45 for Mom's insulin & needles, needed by April 10, when she runs out.
- $142.76 for balance owing on internet bill
Total needed to be raised asap is $697.21.
If you can help me out at all, please send any amount you can via e-transfer ( I can DM email ) or my PayPal or Kofi (link in bio). Please boost, if you're unable to donate. Thank you
You get punished for working as a disabled person in BC. It's not like I want to get a night foot brace. I need one. This system sucks.
I have to get back to completing my legal paperwork tasks now but will check back in a few hours & update funds needed balance.
Thanks for the boosts, everyone! No new donations to report since last update. Still hoping to reach the fundraising goal before Friday.
I received a little bit extra ($275) after reaching my goal & am putting that towards costs of getting left foot brace made for daily sleep/night use.
@PhoenixSerenity the system sucks a lot. I'm sorry.
@alexhaist They don't think I need one. It would take months to appeal & meanwhile I'm in pain nightly because that foot has started to flop when sleeping & it's the foot with multiple surgeries on it from past. My orthotist is upset too because she knows I need to get one made asap to prevent further problems.
@PhoenixSerenity absolute bullshit on the denial. That condition sounds awful and painful.
@alexhaist I have to wrap it every night & try to shift body in certain ways to get any sleep. The night brace wouldn't be comfy but it would slow/stop more damage to my frail foot at night.
@PhoenixSerenity yeah. I have a hyper mobile body, and bracing is so necessary.
@alexhaist My orthotist said getting one would help both my post-polio & osteoporosis conditions.
@PhoenixSerenity do you have to wait until you get it funded?
@alexhaist I can't wait up to a year. I'm going to pay for it.
@PhoenixSerenity I hope your fundraiser handles that funding quickly.
@PhoenixSerenity it really does suck, PhoenixSerenity…
@PhoenixSerenity@beige.party Do you need a SPECIFIC brace, or is it a standard off-the-shelf item? Here for example is a standard Swedish AFO from Grayline Medical for $77:
https://www.graylinemedical.com/products/alimed-swedish-afo?variant=19502944321593
@zakalwe I need a customized brace due to my past multiple surgeries to correct polio rollover foot. I am unable to use store bought braces.
@PhoenixSerenity@beige.party Ah. Sorry to hear that. It was worth asking.
@zakalwe It would be easier/cheaper if I didn't require a custom one.
@PhoenixSerenity Please help. She's good people.
@PhoenixSerenity do you have venmo?
@MamaLake I don't have Venmo. Only PayPal, Kofi & e-transfers.
