@max @LRRRonEarth The people and organizations that control our media have figured out that ignoring protests is the most effective way of resisting them. One of the purposes of a protest is to draw attention to an issue. Why should corporate media help the protestors do that?

@ahltorp @LRRRonEarth according to laws. Hungarian, Turkish, Israeli etc gov use of force against violent protesters is considered legitimate since they are "elected". They love dragging every peaceful protest to a ground where they can crush it with their monopoly on violent force.

∫ They have a *legal* monopoly on violent force. That's not the same thing as a monopoly on non-peaceful action, it's only a monopoly on doing it openly.
Obviously violent protest is dangerous and the state have plenty of resources to shut it down. But if you're not allowed to do peaceful protest, don't do protest: do direct action on the usual ramp (non-compliance, malicious compliance, obstruction, sabotage, high-value target destruction, [omitted for legal reasons])
@petealexharris @LRRRonEarth we had peaceful protests in my country of origin. Tens of thousands of people occupied a park to protect it. At every step all gov did was to make it look violent when it wasn't. They even said molotovs are unacceptable when there weren't any molotovs around. People were peacefully sitting in a park, sharing food and resources. But the next day, out of nowhere molotovs came. And vandals in civilian clothes inside the protesters but wearing the same unmarked navy cap. We noticed, announced even caught some and handed them to the police but the news said the protests got violent so gov has a mandate to stop it and restore order. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yep, the state gets to choose whether a protest was "violent" and what violent response is appropriate, especially when captured by the same billionaires who own the news media.
@petealexharris @LRRRonEarth i try to explain to my fellow Americans who think we still have an Oligarchy here. We DID have an Oligarchy. Sure. Once we crossed the line to an authoritarian phase oligarchs don't have any power anymore. They are allowed to enjoy the money but they can lose it all in a day. Some of those noticed that and thought they could jump in and change the outcome. The outcome they want is a network state. They want to become feudal lords. in this coalition there are different goals. Evangelicals want to set up the rapture, White supremacists want a caste system of sorts etc. The common waypoint in all those is to break down pax-Americana. So for now the coalition will hold.

@LRRRonEarth Exactly my thought when my state (Western Australia) started taking protestors through the courts. A lot of states in Australia have whittled away our right to protest in recent years.

Even if there were still peaceful protests (there aren't because the police bring violence) nobody will hear about them. A protest will only get national coverage if windows get smashed or something gets lit on fire. There is no point to a protest if nobody hears you AND you get arrested.
