beige.party is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Colin Purrington<p>I'm cleaning out a relative's house and one of the fun finds has been glassware that glows under UV light and thus might contain uranium. But fluorescence isn't especially bright so I have to find a Geiger counter to confirm. <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/uvlight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uvlight</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/fluorescence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fluorescence</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/uranium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uranium</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/glass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glass</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/glassware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glassware</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/annagr%C3%BCn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>annagrün</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/annagelb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>annagelb</span></a></p>
Colin Purrington<p>I've recently learned that some glassware contains uranium dioxide and will glow under ultraviolet light. And that they're collectible. For giggles, I used my UV Beast to illuminate some bowls at a house I'm cleaning out. They are not at all yellow/green in normal light. Fan of Shared Truth & Empathy<p>In my continued war on Tobacco Hornworms I’ve found success using UV light to detect much smaller under 1 inch worms just starting to feast but more importantly single eggs mostly spotted on the underside of leaves. Last night along with over a dozen eggs and 4 inch long worms I spotted much smaller babies, including this barely millimeter long guy just emerging. <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/TobaccoHornWorm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TobaccoHornWorm</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Pests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pests</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Worms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Worms</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/UVLight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UVLight</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Tomato" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tomato</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Garden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Garden</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Hunting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hunting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Insects</span></a></p>

O! ver :neurodiversity:<p>Today I learned something about UV light, after 20 years of using biosafety cabinets level 2...<br>UV light, only when the cabinet window is closed, is used whenever we want to be sure that the following experiment won't be contaminated.</p><p>However, some major authorities *advise against it*, mainly because of the risk of irradiating the user and because it is no substitute for proper cleaning (which I knew). Indeed, when it's dirty, microbes are shielded from decontamination.<br><a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/UVLight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UVLight</span></a> <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Biosecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Biosecurity</span></a></p>
