"Rachel Maddow calls out the stupidity of Donald Trump's system for governing, which appears to be to break everything in government and then only repair the damage to things that cause the greatest public outcry. Under Trump's system, the people least able to speak out, like the elderly, are the least likely to have their demands addressed."

#MassiveProtests Against #Trump are Just The Beginning

A co-founder of #Indivisible lays out a vision for harnessing millions of protesters into an unstoppable pro-democracy movement

by Tim Dickerson, April 8, 2025

Excerpts: "The demonstrations were organized by a broad coalition — including groups that rose to prominence in the first Trump administration, like Indivisible, upstarts like the #50501Movement, as well as established grassroots groups like #MoveOn. The upswell of resistance surprised even seasoned organizers. Indivisible cofounder #EzraLevin texted Rolling Stone on Friday to predict 'one of the largest single-day protests in years' adding that the public response was “kind of shocking."

"This was a Big Tent — everybody from like #DSA to #MattYglesias and #NeverTrump Republicans were endorsing it. I had briefly gotten excited about calling this the 'Normal March.'

"Like the wacko, MAGA, right-wing crazies are not gonna be part of this. But if you’re a normal person, you would want to take part. Because obviously you oppose #Project2025, you oppose #DOGE and the richest man in the world coming after your #SocialSecurity.

"But I’m happy we went with '#HandsOff.' It served as a good rallying cry, because we all come to this for different reasons. Maybe we’re concerned about the #tariffs, maybe we’re concerned about #TransKids in our community being targeted, or the #immigrants being disappeared, or maybe we’re concerned about Social Security. We’ve all got something to fight back on."

So, it seems that #Trump is using typical abuser behavior against us all. Abusers often isolate their victims, they can control them financially, they can be abusive while telling the victims that they are doing "x" for their own good (gaslighting). The American public is suffering from being in a relationship with an abusive, #manosphere-embracing bully. And those who voted for him are also victims who don't know they are victims (though they are slowly finding out).

Is American greatness really under threat? Paul Krugman boldly asserts that Trump's administration is causing long-term damage across several vital sectors. He critiques tariffs, compromised health agencies, and appointments like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., warning that misinformation-driven health policies could lead to dire public consequences. The urgent need for scientific integrity in America is clear. Discover more in the full article. [Source](paulkrugman.substack.com/p/att) #Trump #HealthPolicy #SocialSecurity #PublicHealth #Science

"The protestors want the government’s #HandsOff a lot of things — immigrants, veterans’ #health care, #LGBTQ+ rights, #SocialSecurity, schools, #women, #penguins, the #FirstAmendment, the climate, #Canada, #Greenland and the #Constitution. Signs primarily focused on #DonaldTrump and his billionaire advisor #ElonMusk."

"Tens of thousands of #protesters mustered in cities and towns across the country on Saturday to sound off against the #Trump administration's cuts to the federal #government and its policies.

Carrying homemade posters and chanting "Hands Off," the protesters came out to the more than 1,200 rallies nationwide despite rain in many cities"

Social Security website keeps crashing, as DOGE demands cuts to IT staff
The worsening problems come as Elon Musk’s DOGE team pushes for more cuts at the agency, including in the department that oversees the website. archive.is/FHxdi (WaPo paywall busted)

The website has crashed repeatedly in recent weeks, with outages lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to almost a day, according to six current and former officials with knowledge of the issues. Even when the site is back online, many customers have not been able to sign in to their accounts — or have logged in only to find information missing. For others, access to the system has been slow, requiring repeated tries to get in.

The new demands from Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service include a 50 percent cut to the technology division responsible for the website and other electronic access.

Many of the network outages appear to be caused by an expanded fraud check system imposed by the DOGE team, current and former officials said. The technology staff did not test the new software against a high volume of users to see if the servers could handle the rush, these officials said.

Another breakdown disabled the SSI system for much of the day on Friday, prompting claims staff to cancel appointments because they could not enter new disability claims in the system and blocking some already receiving benefits from gaining access to their accounts.
