Weary Wulf<p>[P] I know some might get confused by this, especially hiverarchy, because hiverarchy doesn't really understand what having a real identity—a voice—is. Hiverarchy would think I'm making value assessmenrs based upon mechanics, playability, game length, or even how fun the game is subjectively. I'm not. I can't talk to what neurotypical hiverarchy enjoys. I mean, a lot of SEGA's success is in neurodiversity and characters with voices. Just compare the first Fire Emblem with Shining Force. It might be heretical to say, but I like it when Nintendo's games are SEGA-ish in that they have a voice. Bananza's Donkey Kong is a dead-eyed monstrosity denied a voice, because it's been sucked dry by the vampires. Who knows? Hence why the Nintendo systems that had games with the strongest voices were the GameCube and the Wii U, because they weren't successes. If the vampires aren't looking? We get Metroid Prime. It has so much executive oversight. I don't think people realise how many of the Switch's good games were actually Wii U games, including Mario Kart 8 and Mario Maker. I can't think of a single Switch game that had a voice in the way Wii U games did. "Shut up! Breath of the Wild—" started life on and released as a Wii U game. Tears of the Kingdom felt oddly hollow by comparison, same for Splatoon 2 and 3. These were SEGA-ish games that knew who they were, sitting down with them felt like... aconversation. I was getting to know the creatives behind the works because they poured so much heart and soul into those titles. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess got two of the highest quality remakes I'd seen! Weary Wulf<p>[P] Cards on the table. I was always a SEGA kid. But guess what? I liked the GameCube, I liked Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door as it was one of the rare instances of Mario having personality. I fell in love with both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess as those games confidently knew who they were. These games I've mentioned feel more like SEGA games. So did F-Zero GX, which actually was SEGA but shh. And the Wii U? Weary Wulf<p>[P] I'm just glad the older games exist. I don't want to play as 'slightly racist' soulless mascot DK. I want to play as Rare's DK, who was brimming with personality. It's just the way things are going for AAA, really. If anyone was going to listen to me, I'd say get Cavern of Dreams instead. That adorable kid just exudes effortless identity with his odd sounds and harlequin looks. Weary Wulf<p>[P] It's like the DK I knew was bodysnatched and replaced with a game and a setting that's been drained of all of its personal uniqueness. The only trait it has left is 'kind of a bit racist' and that's not a good trait to have! Especially when the original DK had the trait of 'not at all racist' along with hundreds of other wonderfully distinctive, good traits.
