Alf Dubs is one of the few people with personal memory of those days. He came to #england on the #kindertransport from #czechoslovakia . He represented #battersea in the #houseofcommons in the 1980s. I worked with him politically a few times. A good man!

Speaking of moral lessons from the Holocaust for today, see the below compassionate and moral proposal from #AlfDubs, who as a Czech Jewish boy was saved from it by the #Kindertransport.
I’ve said before that the Kindertransport shames us by its limited scope, a result of antisemitism, condemning the children’s parents to Nazi concentration camps. Fortunately Dubs’ Jewish father and non-Jewish mother managed to get out separately, although he lost other family members.
"In many Indigenous tribes, not only in the United States, but in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, in many places, the children were taken away to put them in some Christian orphanages, horrible places where many of them died of abuse and starvation. So, that idea of separating the kids is extremely cruel, but it keeps happening."

During their #StateVisit in Germany, #KingCharles & Queen Consort headed to #Hamburg today - where they also went to see Frank Meisler's #Kindertransport memorial at #Dammtor station.
It's part of a series of 5 such monuments in #Liverpool, #Berlin, #Gdansk, #HookOfHolland and #Hamburg., closely related to the sculptor's own biography. Meisler passed away in 2018:

I took a friend, (who had never heard of Kindertransports,) to see The Pianist of Willesden Lane at the San Diego Repertory Theatre a few years back. It was, as described, mesmerizing. We need more storytelling like this.

My grandfather, #KarlWeingberger, who died from sepsis OTD in 1941. He had been a highly respected lawyer in Würzburg, Germany. My grandmother, Ruth and two young children were deported to #Auschwitz in 1943. My mother had escaped on the #Kindertransport and was the only one of the family to survive. @auschwitzmuseum
