It's funny how Yahweh had to kill all the Egyptian firstborns. There was no better way to handle it. He couldn't just kill all of the pharaoh's advisors with a note "let them go or you're next" or all of Egypt's nobility or at least the generals of their army. No, it had to be babies. After all, nothing tastes as good as baby blood.

"As we learned more about #Christian #seders, it quickly became clear that not all of the seders are alike. In this #seder tutorial, Pastor Scott Stewart of Agape Church of Little Rock, Ark., explains how to celebrate #Passover, with barely any recognition that this is a #Jewish holiday. It felt like Stewart was even telling #Jews the proper way to lead a Passover seder.

However, other Christian seders focus on exploring the Jewish roots of #Christianity. For example, in this recording, Pastor Tom Holladay of Saddleback #Church teaches his congregants about how #Jesus, who was a #Jew, and his followers would have celebrated Passover in their time."

Unpacked · Why are Christians celebrating Passover and hosting non-Jewish Seders?Passover is gaining in popularity in Christianity. Why are many churches holding Passover seders and what do Jews think about it?

Reading the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19 <bible.com/bible/296/LUK.19.GNB>, and I'm struck by how the people grumbled when Jesus stopped by the house of a sinner ("for tea", as the old Sunday School song puts it 😉). And Jesus reminded them that this man is also a descendent of Abraham.

And of course, we know that after that meeting, Zacchaeus repented and made amends, and received salvation.

Which reminds ME that it doesn't matter how reviled or hated by society you are, or how heinous your acts have been, if you want to meet with Jesus, he will meet with you, and if you repent, you will be saved.

Driving through the Smokies. It's beautiful country. Rolling, lush pastures, new growth mountains, and the occasional terrifying drop. It's a very different ride than over the spine of Norway. Norway is slower and higher. Far more remote feeling. Being above the tree terminator gives everything a different look.

But what is striking at the moment, is they are a lot less weird about Christianity than we are. Now, a lot could be that I just can't see it from an outsider's perspective, but I don't remember any three crosses on random mountaintops on the cross over or back.

I did see a couple of stave churches there. Maybe the weight of history makes it less tacky?

I dunno.
