A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

120 days of reading a short story first thing instead of going straight on my phone*
Today's story was the last in this collection, my first completed anthology of the year. It's full of beautiful, funny, brilliant, heartbreaking, fabulous stories, definitely worth checking out!

* I can't say for definite it's reducing my overall phone use, but I am making things again regularly for the first time in years and I haven't been on reddit for a month now so I reckon probably on balance it is helping to some extent!

I've finished: Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher

A 'wonderful installment in the Saint of Steel series.

Wonderful characters, danger, romance and humor. This time it's more of a rescue mission.

The special bonus is that towards the end we get to learn a bit more about the nature of demons, gods and saints.

We're currently in the interregnum stage of the Catholic Church, when everyone's anxiously awaiting for the conclave and the election of a new pope.

Though Pope Francis has outwardly been seen as a reformer, in general, the Church has also been rigid in its tenets, unlike most Christian denominations. Some like it, some hate it, nonetheless it's been part of Catholicism's reputation, and unlikely to change anytime soon.

Help.

I'm looking for a science fiction story i once read. It's about people who never leave their homes and communicate by phone only. For some reason(?) one person takes the brave step of leaving their home. There might be robots

Please boost.

🏆Edit. I think it's The Machine Stops by E M Forster but feel free to suggest similar! Thank you everyone ❤️❤️

@Yjeva I found the second, Monday's Warriors even better. Strangely, I know I read the third, The House of Strife, back when it was fresh but I have absolutely no recollection of it at all. Monday's Warriors lead me to the non fiction I Shall Not Die by James Belich which was very revealing.

#NowReading: The Cuckoo’s Egg:
Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage

by Clifford Stoll

I've seen this book referenced many times over in books about #cybersecurity. The true story that's “as exciting as any action novel”, an astronomer-turned-cyber-detective begins a personal quest to expose spies that threaten national security.
