Jesus & John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith & Fractured a Nation
A history of the last 50 years of American evangelical attitudes towards masculinity as it involves wider culture and the Christian subculture.
I read Ask and You Will Receive, Vol. 1 by Niyama. A good office romance between two rather obnoxious guys.

I #justfinished Last Chance to save the World by Beth Revis and I loved it. The ending had me giving Revis a bit of side eye but darn- she always has a shocker that packs a punch in these short novellas! #bookreview #Sci-fi #spaceopera #bookreccomendation #books #romcom https://hollysreadingescapades.blogspot.com/2025/04/book-review-last-chance-to-save-world.html?m=1

Just finished reading 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Vol. 1: Return to New York' by Jason Aaron, whose Thor/Mighty Thor runs and Star Wars comics I truly loved, and I seriously enjoyed this book. The story is a bit more grownup, grittier, and more violent than the OG series, but still remains true to the TMNT spirit.
A big thank you to IDW Publishing for offering me an Advance Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review. The book is coming out on June 24, 2025.

_Summerwater_ by Sarah Moss is an engaging collection of stories told by the visitors to a Scottish holiday park on a single rainy summer’s day. Short stories kind of, but also a whole novel. I really like the related stories where you get to see things, and the different narrators, as other people view them.
I was kind of disappointed in the ending but overall it was very good.

AN EXPLORATION OF ABLEISM’S IMPACT and a set of thoughtful recommendations for creating a more inclusive society, from entrepreneur/disability activist Tiffany Yu. Wise, insightful, admirably clear, aimed primarily at currently able allies. A MINUS

Review - The Ten Teacups, by Carter Dickson: I don't find this author as annoying as once I did, but this one was Not For Me. Too contrived. Rating: 2/5 ("it was okay").

A Brief History of Misogyny – Jack Holland
Well researched and written walk through misogyny. One of the big notes relating to recent history is that we often fear Communism more than misogyny. We allow countries (like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan) to be our allies, just like in generations past you’d be friends with someone that beat their wife. The abuse of women is a private matter…and it should never be.

New review: Taking Flight is an entertaining if somewhat uneven book that unapologetically marvels at the many variations of animal flight that have evolved.
