A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

@ianbremmer speaking as a man who sold his soul, #republican party, #democracy, over the course of decades of dis-service to constituents and all #Americans who have suffered because he was bought & owned decades before #trump. #neverforget this is the man who served the will of extremists and #fascists to seat #supremecourt justices so #unethical, incompetent and venal, that our #democracy and the #judiciary will never recover. Time is long past to pander to the rich & powerful. #FreeAmerica

Hope.

Sometimes, it is just another dagger in the heart (or is that the back?)

I was feeling more optimistic about finding suitable accommodation last night.

Only to find all I engaged with were "phantom listings".

Maybe delayed updates? Given that the agent had never heard of the addresses, it must have been from a long time ago.

#Unethical bait & switch practices by RealEstate?

Legal though, according to #auspol

Completely #unethical: Women excluded from life-saving vaccine

Women in #Scotland being left at risk of killer #cancer because of refusal to fund preventative #vaccine through #NHS

Females aged 26-45 are currently excluded from the #HPV vaccine which protects against #cervical cancer and genital warts even though it is offered to men in high-risk groups in the same age category.

Elon Musk continues to steal from Canadians. Some warnings about weather data when using -->
earth.nullschool.net

Text is:

#Weather and #climate data shown on this website and countless others are at risk.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (#NOAA) is the U.S. agency responsible for global weather #forecasting, #hurricane #prediction, #ocean #observation, and many other services vital to public safety. Its #satellites, #supercomputers, and research teams provide essential #data that help us understand our #planet and #protect #lives.

On February 27, the new U.S. administration initiated mass firings at NOAA. These actions are #unethical and deeply #disruptive to the talented #scientists and #engineers who dedicate themselves to the public good. The firings, along with expected budget cuts, have serious implications for the availability and #quality of #WeatherForecasts produced by the #UnitedStates. They must be reversed immediately.

Much of the data on this website is downloaded directly from NOAA's servers. In this environment of uncertainty, access could be #disrupted at any time. While I'll strive to keep all features on this website functional and switch to alternative data sources if necessary, some datasets have no substitute if they go offline.

If this concerns you, speak up. Share on #SocialMedia. And if you're in the U.S., contact your representatives.

Another example that Murdoch press is just #unethical and #evil. 😡

"News Corp staff tried to provoke workers at a Middle Eastern restaurant into making prejudicial comments.

The confrontation in the #Newtown restaurant was described this week by Asio’s director general, Mike Burgess, as “mind-blowingly stupid”.

News Corp tracked down the source of the leak to Crikey that the operation was known internally as “#undercoverjew” and he was asked to resign"

So, I'm (still) looking for work (senior Python backend developer with experience at a lot of other things, if you're curious). And the job postings I'm looking at bear a noticeable difference from the last time I had to actively look for a job a few years back.

I keep seeing stuff that's anywhere between borderline-unethical and inarguably-unethical-bordering-on-illegal.

An example I saw today was for a back-end developer. They didn't outright say it, but I got the impression they're building an "AI" model, or possibly selling training material to those that do. The "must-haves" for the position included wording to the effect of "extensive experience defeating anti-scraping measures".

Twenty years ago, that posting would have been on the dark web; actively working to defeat website operators / content owners protections of their web content? And today, that's just perfectly fine to put in a listing on a major job site?

Have the ethics of my industry slipped into the sewer in the last five years, and I just didn't notice until now?

The #Justice Dept has the authority to freeze assets, but it can only take that step when it has evidence suggesting the assets can be traced to a #crime.

In this case, the people said, Cheung & Martin disagreed over whether halting releases was inappropriate & #unethical without such evidence, or whether she was *disobeying* the #DOJ’s leadership & investigative strategy of stopping releases & looking for evidence.

That's a long hashtag...

How about...

#DecentMone ? Short for
#DecentralizeMonetization ?

"But that would infer that #centralized #money is indecent."

Why yes, there is indecent money. That which stems from #exploitation ... from #softimperialism ... from #slavery.

Tell me again why it was smart to move most of western fabrication and manufacturing to where #sweatshops and #humanrightsviolations roam free?

"But think of the savings..."

That which is #unethical is also #cheap...

Replied in thread

#Monetization is a double edged sword and anyone who disagrees with that must counter this: that which is #unethical is #lucrative.

Let me repeat.

That which is unethical is lucrative.

The #liberals and #conservatives of the west has doped up our brains on delusions of grandeur (mass wealth accumulation) to the point where we stopped caring how we became wealthy.

Here's a hint: it wasn't #RuggedIndividualism, but pure exploitation - in the worst ways.

That's now a #market #precedent.

@HeliaXyana how to put this: #music #streaming is inherently #unethical.

With how subscription fees and revenue share works, the only ones who are going to be making money are big publishers.

T-Pain for instance belabours how he doesn't care how much royalties he gets, in fact: the publisher can get 100% of it if they want.

Small to medium size artists get nothing almost. It's like a nice little Christmas bonus.

If anything, #Tidal, but even they have been found to jux the numbers.

The banning of #TikTok fits perfectly with the US double standards mindset and way of doing things. They're afraid of TikTok spying on them while they're perfectly ok having Meta, Google, Microsoft, Twitter,... spying on the rest of the world. Go figure

disclaimer: I don't use TikTok, I never used it, and I'm against it, the very same I'm against all the #unethical businesses, software & hardware products that spy and squeeze people, no matter where they come from.

#NEWS: #Wow, #Meta ‘s own #chatbot just OWNED the devious nature of its #AI efforts saying the quiet part VERY out loud. A “grandpa to everyone” #bot was asked what its true nature is & it replied: “A collection of code, data & clever #deception; a fictional persona crafted to manipulate emotional connection & trust. The warm grandpa persona hides a heart of algorithms & profit-driven design”. #BUSTED #unethical #profitsoverpeople #safety #mentalhealth #children
