The many orange tips of this ground lichen were impossible to miss as I climbed up the trail, as if the lichen was hoping to be noticed. I didn't want to let this organism down, and here we are

13 years of moss and lichen growth.

I hung this helmet up in 2012. It was the end of a transcontinental motorcycle trip during which one of my buddies died.

This is my monument to Mark.

A black Harley-Davidson motorcycle helmet hangs on a wood and chicken wire greenhouse door. The top surface is smooth, but the under surface has transformed into a moss and lichen garden. Several tufts of spiky orange/green moss grow above the Harley badge. Several ghostly green lichens stretch arms out into the air.

a thick trunked tree growing out of an even thicker trunked old dead stump, both splashed all over with a fine green lichen

$an iconic landmark of this particular hike, some jagged & fractured remains of a stump, with HUGE thick live roots growing horizontally out of its side, before turning upward to reach the sun as trees normally tend to do$

one of the few moments of direct sunlight penetrating the forest along the otherwise shady trail, landed in a single burst along yet another old stump serving as a starting ground for a new tree, who while mainly growing to the side of that stump, has DRAPED one of its roots over the top of it, as if giving it a big hug

Purplish lobes of a lichen; embossed thalli (leafy structures), some with white margins, several with orange fruiting bodies. On several of the lobes, where the edge is uplifted, tiny white rhizines (spiky, root-like structures) can be seen. On a base of moss, with a couple of sticks.
