(i forgot to say earlier, but)
goldfinch! on the fence post
Violet-green Swallows! Circling over our little road
baldy! between the trees
A pair of Red-naped Sapsuckers! On one of the big cottonwoods!
Two wrens teleporting all over the deck. #BirdCallOut
Went in search of Green Herons this morning but didn't see any. I did see a female Belted Kingfisher and a pair of Barn Swallows so the day started well. Of course I saw many more commonly seen birds, too.
Cedar Waxwings! At the city park!
I had fun on the west side of the Mississippi this afternoon, across from the large island of the heron rookery (which has great blue herons, cormorants, and great egrets). Fun fact: the GB herons come over to the west side to pick up twigs and sticks for their nests, and they dig in the ground for food. It makes sense they source their nest material close to their nests. I wonder when we'll see chick heads poking up from the nests.
hoopoe! flying low and straight over the garden like a stout, stripey torpedo
white wagtail! on the barn roof (earlier today)
#BirdCallOut Gambel's Quail, on the path along the arroyo behind my housing development. Just as I finished saying, "Huh, no quails today," to my wife, two dozen or so zipped out of a nearby prickly pear patch and fled down into the arroyo.
Red-tailed Hawk nest high above my physical therapy parking lot. It’s overlooking the highway.
I can hear a juvenile in there making all sorts of ridiculous noises. And of course my phone has no zoom.
I’ll be back, squawky baby hawk! With zoom camera in tow!
(In the meantime, here’s some audio.)
Northern Parula! White-eyed Vireo! (Both FOS for me.)
Cooper's Hawk swooping by my head!
(Eastern NC)
swallows! flying past the kitchen window
they're back
Red Kite!
Over the greenhouse!
Purple finch at the feeder! #birdcallout
