A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

"open source defense"? Disgusting. I have a friend in #norway who is part of the military and always a good point about #american obsession with #guns. In the #EU gun ownership is NOT a right. It's very expensive. Very. But, you are PAYING other people to play with guns on your behalf (unless you're Finnish). That's their JOB. If you want to be a "professional citizen" then...get paid to do it...in the #miltary. Stop pretending. They also don't get "bootlicking" #news

@raymondpert Agree, and mind you, it took the gumption of an #Australia-based academic to #critique the susceptibility of #American #presidential #elections to being gamed.
🧐I'm still looking for useful critiques/analyses of this crucial topic emanating from researchers based in the US. Meanwhile, one wonders whether this topic, and the serious study of it, might have somehow been relegated as a "dead-end" or "career-fatal" endeavor for US-based #politicalscience academics?🤔

Loudly defend the First with the Second armed to the teeth, to avoid hiding for the Third, then they won’t take the Fourth, the Fifth will be unspoken, the Sixth would be inappropriate, the Seventh wouldn’t be seated in the first place, the Eighth would be overkill, no need to outline the Ninth, and the Tenth is shared.

"The short horizon is at least partly because Denby — who was the longtime film critic as well as staff #writer at the New Yorker — has chosen to #write about the lives of iconic figures who were active while he was a professional writer. One of them, Brooks, is even still alive, aged 98, at the #book’s publication. But the claustrophobic constriction and end of the Golden Age goes to illustrate how, despite the brightness with which Brooks, Bernstein, Mailer, Friedan, and others, shone, the #Jewish #American Golden Age was frighteningly short-lived.

For Denby, the lesson is that American #Jews need to display assertive pride in the face of political tribulations."

The Forward · The golden age for American Jews is over — and wow was it shortIn Denby's telling, Leonard Bernstein, Mel Brooks, Betty Friedan and Norman Mailer lived 'eminent' Jewish lives in a lost golden age for Jews.
