Roknrol

My mom wants to watch the Booker speech on her TV, but we can't find a single station showing it.

Lots of commentary. Lots of chyrons. Can't find it. We will not go to Fox, she is very clear about that.

Help a guy's dear old mother?

Edit: Never did find an answer, but since the filibuster is finished, there's no point in seeking additional help. Thanks to everyone that chimed in and/or boosted.

@roknrol It’s streaming on C-SPAN online so maybe it’s on her C-SPAN TV channel?

c-span.org/event/us-senate/us-

@suzdal92 Nope...they're showing confirmation hearings.

@suzdal92 We're on MSNBC right now, but they're largely talking over him.

@suzdal92 This is kind of a big fucking problem, isn't it? I mean...not everyone is gonna turn on a computer or burn their phone battery to watch, especially if they have a TV.

This is scarrier to me than a lot of stuff going on right now.

@roknrol It definitely sucks. My 70-year-old aunt in rural Kentucky doesn’t even have a computer or cell phone. I know she’s not the only person like this. She can only see what comes in on her TV, so the people who could benefit from seeing Cory Booker don’t even have the opportunity. ☹️

@suzdal92 @roknrol

Isn’t there a C-Span and a c-span2, for those who still celebrate cable?

@Chancerubbage @roknrol Apparently it wasn’t showing on cable C-SPAN yesterday for whatever reason, just on streaming C-SPAN. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@suzdal92 @roknrol

All the bugs (station ID logos) I saw on the footage said CSPAN 2.

I can’t imagine a cable company not carrying both

@Chancerubbage @suzdal92 I sure couldn't find it. Tried every permutation of every major network that I could think of and there was always something different playing.

MSNBC was "showing" it, but they were almost entirely talking over the top of it.

I expected C-Span would be carrying it, but they were showing some different confirmation hearing stuff (I had Booker on my phone so I could see it wasn't remotely the same thing - I did not stick around to see what it was actually about).

@roknrol @suzdal92

Is it possible you have no access to CSPAN 2? Maybe they broke away too.

Anyway, at this point I might want a searchable transcript to read, but the realtime closed captioning I saw seemed to be a hot mess. I don’t think actually stenographers are used any more, just AI.

@Chancerubbage @suzdal92 No idea...I caught enough of it. My folks have moved on.

U just wonder how many elderly or unconnected folks had no real idea it was taking place because they couldn't find it.

@roknrol Sorry, I know nothing about TV these days, but can she stream on her phone? I have been watching it on and off all day on Associated Press on YouTube. Some podcasts, like Brian Taylor Cohen, are streaming it live on YouTube.

@earthlingusa Their TV is not set up for Youtube, that's why I was looking for a cable source. The usual idiots are just talking over him - AP, CNN, NBC, CBS, PBS, C-span, and MSNBC. I think those are all the stations that we checked, but I might have missed some.

I've got it playing on my phone, but it'd be nice on the TV.

@HarriettMB Their TV doesnt YouTube and they dont want me messing with it to get it to work.

This should not be difficult to access, you know? Lots of people are never going to hear him speak...they're seeing filtered statements and a lot of speculation by pundits, at best.

(Congrats to Corey Booker BTW...I couldn't talk for that long)

@roknrol On TV specifically? (Not YouTube?)

@Cassandra Yes, it's all over the place on YouTube, but can't find it anywhere on Cable. I'm not a cable guy, so I feel there are probably options that I haven't thought of.

We're on MSNBC right now, but we never get to hear the man speak.

@chikim @ZBennoui She is watching there but she would prefer a TV. Here eyes aren't great.

It shouldn't be this hard for non-tech people (they exist!) to access this.

@vextaur Tried it. They are showing it on the web, but the cable channel (at the time) was showing some other confirmation hearing.

Thanks for trying...they're voting now so it's all as done as it'll get.
