This is so cool! Through the nonprofit called David's Chair, my Aunt was able to use an all-terrain wheelchair for free, and to enjoy the Oregon coast with her family. davidschair.org/

@kimlockhartga That's great! I first saw a photo of one of these being used on a beach in Lincoln City. This sort of access is wonderful.

Yes, these things are really awesome. I did a piece on them last year. It's nice to see more of them available in more places.

These “Land Rover Wheelchairs” with tank style tracks, allow people with mobility disabilities to enjoy the  natural beauty of state park trails, in even the most rugged and unaccommodating terrain. Rocks, roots, snow wetlands and thick growth no longer prevent access to people with disabilities with a desire for bush wacking. Colorado offers free equipment as part of their a "Track-Chair" program included with the price of park admission.   Minnesota has five chairs and has finished a test period as they are “evaluating” their pilot program.   Michigan's “Sleeping Bear Dunes" was the first National Park to offer the rough and tumble 500 pound chairs. Some states require users to complete an online training course and provide advanced notice or make reservations.  There are rental fees involved for this “accommodation” in certain states. South Dakota and Georgia recently unveiled their fleets of All-Terrain wheelchair "tanks" making them the latest states to provide accessability and accommodation. Exploring South Dakota’s badlands sounds peachy. Tank you for joining the movement to provide access and mobility to persons with disabilities. @kimlockhartga I just read the backstory. One of my best friends has ALS, she's had it for over a year and is still doing ok but is confined to a wheelchair. She's in Alabama, I wish this program was nationwide. So wonderful for people in the Pacific Northwest.

@Jennifer I wonder if any of the Alabama State Parks have them.

@kimlockhartga lol no, there's hardly any funding for parks here. My friend has a pretty good wheelchair just not like that!

@Jennifer @kimlockhartga I wonder what it would take to spread it nationwide? I so wish this had been available for my mom.

@BrambleBearGrrrauwling @kimlockhartga I read their website and the wheelchairs are really expensive, then they have to arrange transport to different places. It would probably be super expensive to expand

@kimlockhartga this is some cool wheelchair design!

Pretty shure if one does record using it in #FirstPerson perspective sith a #GoPro and adds some Mick Gordon or Frank Klepacki soundtrack to it it'll get like demon blades and Nod Logos over it!

@kimlockhartga I hope, for her sake, she’s currently zooming off into the distance while screaming “TRY CATCHING ME NOW BITCHES” and having the time of her life.

@kimlockhartga I bet she had the *best* time out of anyone in the family too! So empowering!!

@kimlockhartga what in the absolutely awesome tank wheelchair!?! I have long wondered if something like that exists. I am still mobile, but only in the sense that I can get around the house slowly. There are places I would like to see again that I have no chance of getting to on my own. This gives me hope

@jared I really hope you get to do this.

@kimlockhartga my mom needed that in Michigan last week! I wish this were available nationwide . So glad to know it exists!

@kimlockhartga even I would like to ride it and pretend I am a Mars rover 😁
