Notably on this #switchday , I went to delete my Facebook account, and discovered that the window to download my personal data, requested last week, had closed.
What? They never said anywhere that such a thing would only be available for a limited time. AND I was pretty sure they had said that I would receive a second email (after their first, acknowledging my request) when my data was available to download. I monitored my email very carefully all week, NEVER seeing such an email, including in my spam folder.
So I made a second data download request today, noted how long the last one had taken (that I only learned about by LOGGING IN, not via the email the method they’d claimed & I’d expected), and deactivated (now) instead.
You better believe I’ll be checking back, downloading my data, and G’ing TFO with a full delete, once that’s complete. Beyond the forest of menus (which deletefacebook.com gives a pretty good primer on), Meta unequivocally LIED* at least twice, about their part of how the process works. Can’t get out of there fast enough!
*If it weren’t for all their other sleazy practices being the reason for me to leave, either one of these might ALMOST be overlooked as a mistake. But not both, and not compounded by their other practices, including f*ckery about Linux (partially misconstrued or not) and Orange One ring-kissing.
All done. They dangled the carrot of my Instagram data too, but I never used it, and never set up a password they wanted me to set up right now JUST TO BE SURE.
Yeah, no.
So they gave me 30 days to make sure I'm sure.
I'm sure.
Bye, Z*ck!
