I don’t know how to label myself, so I’m not claiming to be a leftist. My life’s philosophy is basically - be yourself, live your life and don’t push it down in anybody else’s throats
@farah these days it seems that being a decent human being is labeled as “woke leftie” or some other term intended as a pejorative.
@farah That's similar to my philosophy: Live and let live, don't force my morals (or lack of) on others, do what I want as long as it doesn't hurt others, and try to live life to the fullest.
I've been called various incorrect things due to my lifestyle: Hippie, leftist, libertarian, do-gooder, etc. I don't feel any of those apply. I'm just me. Hi! :D
@farah I think I’ve only ever used the term in the recent sense, to refer to people from the left who, bafflingly, take a “You know, Russia kind of has a point” stance on Ukraine. Otherwise, I don’t find it applies to many on the left I deal with here.

@farah I'm not convinced that that is new. With the blurring of socialism and communism for the benefit of the right over the last 50 years, almost any use of the word leftist by someone not so self idntifying, is taken as hard left in the authoritarian sense. Possibly because authoritarianism has become so increasingly popular.
