So I think I should share "Media" right away so folks know it's really moi - how about a rock? This "rock" is one of my more "famous" rock photos. I took it in a glass display case at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show years ago in 2007 with a point and shoot camera. The "rock" is an amazing geode from the Bisbee mines and owner called it "Velvet Beauty". Back then it was valued at $25,000. I have thousands of photos on my flickr account that is now about 20 years old. Yikes! #Cobalt #Rock #Azurite #Geode
omg, someone/s found me and followed AND, ta-da! BOOSTED a post, woohoo! Ooooh, I'm headed for the Big Time now!
This photo reminds me: why the heck do I need the full frame Canon camera and all the prime lenses and spend hours with Lightroom and Photoshop? When I can just get out a tiny JPG-only camera and do no editing whatsoever and get a photo that has something like 375k views? Hmmm, maybe I should just mostly use my cellphone camera like I have been for a while...
Welcome to the cul—uh, the Party.
See, this is the lovely thing about this place. Here, everyone will see this post and boost it, just to give you another “ta-da” moment. Can’t say that about many other platforms.
Of course, no doubt the success will change you, and you’ll end up an egotistical monster, who demands only blue M&Ms at public engagements. And it’ll be all our fault.
Mastodon is evil.
@cobalt123 what a beautiful rock and photo!
@cobalt123 that is beautiful
@cobalt123 That's gorgeous!
@cobalt123 @nellie_m Thanks for sharing this. I was introduced to the wonder of geodes at a very early age, and have always been fascinated by them.
@cobalt123 Absolutely stunning. Arizona is such an amazing place for a rock hound. I used to love going to the shows but just all the little road side rock shops were delightful.
@Pineywoozle I was lucky the owner saw me trying to get a good photo thru the glass of the tall rectangular column display case and offered to open the door of it. I just had a Point & Shoot jpg camera then - maybe only 6 mp or at best 8 mp. I’m excited my granddaughter is going with me in a couple weeks to the BIG show in Tucson. She’s driving. My back issues prevent me driving 2 1/2 hours. I’m lucky!
@cobalt123 How fun! It’s always a joy to watch someone you love be entranced by something you love. The BT learned how to do jewelry with me and the day I knew he was hooked was the look on his face when I came back to the airstream from a trip, with a ton of stones from a bead store that was several hours away. He said “You went to the bead store without me… and he looked sooo sad.
@cobalt123 @Pineywoozle The first thing I do as evening approaches is turn on the lights in my own case. I still love looking at gorgeous colorful #minerals
@CWilbur @Pineywoozle Terrific specimens you have! I’m hoping to do same, soon. I bought 2 “TV entertainment stands that will stack. They have strips of LED lights that will light up 2 long shelves each cabinet” with remote switches. They’ve been at our front door since delivery in August. Son keeps insisting I should not build by myself and he’ll help. Hmmmm, I’m so jealous! Maybe I’ll just wrangle 1 box into the living room floor. Innocently looking at it.
@cobalt123 LoL guilt trips with the objects front & center lol always more effective. @CWilbur
@CWilbur @Pineywoozle Heh heh. Picture 2 of these stacked. The remotes choose a zillion colors or “clear” or “white” and the brightness. Can set a timer even.
@CWilbur @cobalt123 @Pineywoozle This is fantastic!
@cobalt123 I visited a friend who owned a house in Bisbee many years ago. Don't know what it is like now, but it was charmingly weird back then.
@cobalt123 Really amazing shot, beej!
