My memorial to David Lynch will be to hopefully introduce some folks to INTERVIEW PROJECT.
In 2009, Lynch crossed the US and back (20,000 miles), interviewing Americans intimately familiar to me, but invisible to most of the world. The underdogs, the down-and-out, those who don't fit in, mostly. A lot of broken dreams. Ain't that America.
There are 122 films, directed by Lynch, portraits under 5:00. All are available on Lynch's YouTube channel, re-released for the project's 15th Anniversary last Fall.
Here's the trailer, with a selection of interview films to follow in a thread.

I'm posting select films from #DavidLynch's INTERVIEW PROJECT (2009).
CLINTON, from Fayetteville WV, appealed to me because he's a way-outsider with a passion, and will tell anyone who'll listen all about it.
Every small town in America has a CLINTON that "decent folks" tsk tsk at, but CLINTONs DGAF! Not even a small fraction of a tiny F.
They're my heroes.
Plays in the post (3:40).

BRENDA RAY spoke to me because I've known and admired survivors like her all my adult life. Brenda lives in Western NC and sells collectibles when she can.
Plays in the post (4:39).
Spending time tonight with David Lynch's INTERVIEW PROJECT subjects.
I'm especially drawn to the too-common life stories I've heard from people I've met. LYNN.
CW: Abuse. Despair.

@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating Thanks, Eddie. I missed this project.
My pleasure, really. A dream would be to do what Lynch did with INTERVIEW PROJECT, now. First-person stories fascinate me, and I love talking to so-called strangers.
@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating If you're not a bartender or a hair stylist, you might've missed your calling.
My love is being free to go where I want and observe people and to talk with those I think might be interesting, safely. Occasionally, someone will pull away or brush me off, but I've found most love to tell their stories and welcome a brief break in their minutely-planned schedules. They're aching to tell someone about their life or present circumstance, and I'm genuinely intested to listen.
@TheEddieShow Thanks, I've been meaning to look, I've watched the Cher interview, it's intense
Lemme go find Cher!
Thanks Eddie, really appreciate it brother x
You know I love to hear and tell stories (always a story with me).
Whenever I've been to the US I've always had some interesting and revealing conversations with folks. It's my accent, people are intrigued and when you show a bit of vulnerability or openness folks just open up as you're non-threatening. I'm like Louis bloody Theroux over there
Yep, we're a very British accent-fascinated lot, on the whole, especially outside cities. Charmed by your wiles. But OMG! AUSTRALIANS can walk into any pub or bar and never pay for a beer.
It's so funny, when I'm in the US everyone hears me like I'm Hugh Grant, but in the UK I sound like Danny Dyer (I don't expect you to know who that is. He's a working class actor from around London, some might say a cockney. He's a character).
Here is Danny on a mainstream British breakfast TV show discussing Brexit. Randomly sat opposite him are uber left wing politician and failed prime ministerial candidate, Jeremy Corbyn, and Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson!
Danny sums up Brexit perfectly whilst calling out David Cameron, who set it in motion, and using the swear word "Twat" twice at 9am.
The second "twat" is one of the most beautiful things I've heard on TV. Heartfelt and after the conversation was moved on.
Hold up. Danny Dyer, Borstal Boy for starters.
Thanks for the clip, since I want to see *everthin DD. :)
@TheEddieShow Thanks for this, fantastic stuff!
@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating never heard of this project, so nice to learn it exists, thanks!
@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating Thank you so much for sharing this. New to me and a treasure!
pleasure.
@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating Last night we watched Mulholland Drive in honor of him.
Blue Velvet in cued up for later.
@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating this is amazing. Thank you
My pleasure.
Have been watching a few of these since you flagged it up. Not this one though.
I just want to buy her that white picket fence
16 years ago. Is Brenda still with us, and if so, what's her life like now? Bugs me not to know. x
That's the thing with these interviews, they leave a trace that you can't revisit. X
This project begs doing again.
