A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

I try very hard not to be uncharitable about people, especially those who have experienced some kind of hardship, so not mentioning any names like actor and outspoken climate change denier James Woods, who presumably doesn't accept that 20 of the most destructive wildfires in Californian history have occurred within the last 26 years - 7 of which were in the last 5 years - but he must presumably think that this is nothing new and has been going on forever, so why then did he choose to buy a house in the area - without insurance? It's quite a maverick move. I see he's blamed liberals for the fires. How does that work? Am I missing something?

Ben

I believe that the climate is no different now than it has always been. Despite there being massive recent destructive fires, I think that this is just normal for the area. I shall buy a house and live there. And I shall do it..... without any insurance!

@TheBreadmonkey the thing is ... rich people here will get govt assistance. They know this. He will go live in some hotel villa or a vacation home for a few months. There will be debates about the tragedy. Insurance companies will be reimbursed for their losses and only forward some of that on to people who need it. Direct to homeowner payments will come shortly after.

@TheBreadmonkey

I'm going to take a wild guess here and assume that this is/was comedy/parody/satire. I'm often not good at picking these things up as I have a habit of reading things 'literally'.

In case I've got this wrong(!):
a) don't ever buy a house which is a recent build in a flood-plain.
b) don't ever buy a house in an obvious fire-risk area.
c) if you do either (a) or (b), and you are not rich enough to self-insure, do not ever whinge when it all goes pear-shaped or burns.

End of.
