A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

".... to be Canadian is to look southward toward America and say: Canada may not be perfect, but we will never be, nor will we ever want to be, anything other than what we are — Canada, the true north, strong and free."

montrealgazette.com/opinion/op

@Johny28 They need to move to the US!!!

@EllenJS
Don't even go there please! NO!
EDIT: This is an obvious satire website.
And I don't find it at all funny! We Do NOT want to become Americanized thank you!

@SnowshadowII

Thanks for the edit. It is satire, and many Americans unhappy with what’s going on in the US talk about wanting to join Canada.

@EllenJS
Yes, they do too often ask me that that's why my curt response.
I used to go into a lengthy explanation all the reasons why it is not feasible but it all boils down to we are different and do NOT want to our identity overwhelmed and diluted by a massive influx of tens of millions of unknown Americans...including MAGAs.
Individuals are more than welcome to move here, but no, not states joining.
That's a settler attitude.
And when I have people making the request or suggestion many, many times a day it's annoying because it shows a lack of thought and sensitivity, so I apologize for my short reply earlier.

And think about this if a country was threatening yours, and part of it said we want to join you...??

@SnowshadowII @EllenJS

I don't think a lot of Americans realize just how much anxiety this talk of annexation has been causing.

Satire lands pretty flat when your country is in the crosshairs.

@SnowshadowII @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS I feel you guys — living next to Russia, this is on our minds day in and day out… Stay strong and focused. And thank you #Canadians for all the good support to Eastern European countries 🙏🏻

@bearslayer @SnowshadowII @EllenJS

Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

I think we still have troops deployed in Latvia.

I wish we had our post war army still.

@bearslayer Thank *you* for your kind words of support, they are truly appreciated. I wish as a country we could offer more support . And thank you for standing with Ukraine💜
@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS

@SnowshadowII @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS There is no other way, supporting Ukraine is supporting freedom, democracy, bravery and all that is good about humanity 🙏🏻

@bearslayer yes they are all that.. And Ukraine is protecting the West, I wish more people realized this.

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS

@SnowshadowII @bearslayer @Sir_Osis_of_Liver

Many people do realize that Ukraine is protecting the west, and unfortunately some in power now don’t see things that way. Those who do see things that way need to keep supporting.

@EllenJS
Untag me from this part of your conversation because I have typed replies and deleted them 6 times. You are stating the obvious. I don't want to hurt your feelings. untag me.

@bearslayer @Sir_Osis_of_Liver

@SnowshadowII

I wrote & deleted replies too. I understand the satire fell flat. I asked how to connect instead, and I’ll ask again now.

Your attempt to not hurt my feelings has not succeeded (re-read your comment since)

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver comments resonate:

“we should all try to be patient and empathetic.”

“On one side, not everyone is out to get us, and on the other, some subjects are just going to be pretty sensitive going forward.”

@bearslayer

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @SnowshadowII

A lot of Americans do realize how much anxiety this talk of annexation is causing —it’s causing it not just to you but to us too! We didn’t vote for this, we’re as horrified as you are, and we’re working for change.

We too are looking for support, and satire falls flat. How should we try to connect?

@EllenJS @SnowshadowII

I understand. The American friends I have are pretty despondent about all of this.

In the end we're all just passengers on Trump's crazy train.

I'm not near clever enough to have solutions, just a suggestion that we should all try to be patient and empathetic.

On one side, not everyone is out to get us, and on the other, some subjects are just going to be pretty sensitive going forward.

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @SnowshadowII @EllenJS We have friends in Arizona who made a joke a few weeks ago about us becoming the 51st state. I said “Not funny at all” but you’re right - I don’t think they really get it. And they are nice people.

@lauriekay9 @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS

Yup. Most Americans, including the nice ones, even my friends don't "get it".

@SnowshadowII @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS I’m not sure they really understand what’s happening in their own country.

@lauriekay9 @Sir_Osis_of_Liver @EllenJS

I really think they do not. They have lived decades living with the fantasy that their country is the best in the world and is immune to a structural failing within the government. Look how their school children begin each day "talking to the flag". And their text books (I lived in the US) glorify the US, never mentioning the horrors. US news is primarily US news, for example, nothing or very little about the ongoing protests in Europe. They isolate themselves in a little bubble, so how could they see what's going on?
