beige.party is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

Okay, having looked into it a bit more thoroughly: beta.argyle.social is full of copied accounts, exact - save for the lack of pictures - and I presume unconsenting copies of real people and organisations who have accounts elsewhere on fedi.

All the accounts appear to have lots of follows and followers, because they all follow each other.

You might want to look to see if there's an account in your name on that server? Although I'm not sure what you can do about it if there is.

There's also an alpha.argyle.social and a gamma.argyle.social - no other Greek letters as far as I can see.

Whatever it is, it's dodgy as hell and worth blocking the instances entirely.

@theropologist Is this something that can or should be blocked for the whole instance? You might know better but as far as I can tell, *.argyle.social is just stealing everyone's stuff and maybe it would protect the cult members- I mean, beige partygoers if it couldn't federate with us.

@RolloTreadway Thanks for letting me know. I have blocked those subdomains as well as the argyle.social domain.

@RolloTreadway i can see (stolen) use pics on beta.argyle, what a weird server. Lots of bird/nature related ones are visible to me

@RolloTreadway

That is strange. Either there's an ulterior motive or someone has just copied a load of stuff for testing, and it has escaped into the wild.

Have you consulted Dear Leader about it?

@ratcatcher I've messaged Dear Leader, I'm sure he has the matter in hand, may his name be praised.

@RolloTreadway The fact that it's on 4.0.2 which was released in Nov 2022 is also a bit fishy. The last (not latest; "last") 4.0.x series release was 4.0.15 in Feb 2024.

@RolloTreadway hey @ruud, you might wanna get your team to look into this
