My first sailing accident. Got caught on rocks. I was able to dislodge sailboat but waves kept pushing us back towards rocks.

My phone camera wasn't turned off when we had our little accident. I ended up recording it all, including radio call for rescue help. About a minute after I realized my camera was still on - turned it off & used my cane to push us off the rocks. I love my cane so much.

Apparently, I have a knack for accidentally recording accidents I'm involved in.

This accident was from over a year ago. When I was in the front passenger seat of a friend's car - when they lost control on the North island highway, while it was snowing. We crashed into a snowbank.

We all were OK except for some minor injuries. I was feeling pretty sore for over 2 weeks after. We were so lucky though. A huge snowbank saved us from crashing right into the trees. My friend in backseat was buried under bags & a French horn instrument/case. I climbed out asap & starting trying to flag down any vehicle on highway to help us. We got a ride from a local to nearby pub, only place open, within 15 minutes of crashing. We were so damn lucky.

@PhoenixSerenity

I hope no one got hurt and everything turned out ok in the end.

@PhoenixSerenity

Did a rescue boat come to help?
Coastguard?

@PhoenixSerenity

Thats great. They seemed to have gotten there fairly quickly.
I'm glad you had a happy ending today. This experience will help you become better sailors. 😀

@maddad Also, the guys who came to rescue us thanked us for giving them more experiences in helping out on accidents 😊✌️⛵

@PhoenixSerenity @maddad

And you've modelled calling for help early.
Rather than late, or too late.

Thanks for sharing.
I'll apply this on the water, and it'll fit in well with #AgedCare for an #ElderlyRelative.

@skua @maddad I always call for help early because it's better than waiting too long & banking on confidence. Nope. I will ask for help very quickly, when accidents happen - on waters, on lands or at home 👍

@PhoenixSerenity I would not have guessed an accident was coming along from the posts and photos earlier today! Glad all worked out@

@cobalt Thanks. Glad it was only a minor accident. It was my first sailing accident.

As time goes, adventures, and misadventures, are a sure thing. Spent a decade on boats often, a couple of years on a rescue too. We've all been there if we've been on the water enough welcome, we have cocoa and blankets 😆

Getting turtled (mast stuck), logs/debris, sandbanks, sudden storms, and inopportune wind change timing, nature's got variety and will throw curveballs. Even with 20, 30, 40 years of experience, had some misadventures, won many a race, savored many a wind, countless adventures.

You picked a good area for practice, help is close. Your mission is to get through the rough times and have good times and gentle lessons. You did!

Using your cane for leverage was clever, resourceful.
