beige.party is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
A home to friendly weirdos. The Grey Gardens of the Fediverse (but beige). Occasionally graphically cacographic. Definitely probably not a cult (though you'll never be 100% sure). Beige-bless 🙏

@OutOnTheMoors funny that the burnt umber is the lighter of the two. I would expect "burnt" to be *darker*

@verolynne @OutOnTheMoors maybe it's like how lobsters turn red when they're cooked? 🤷‍♀️

@OutOnTheMoors finally some relevant content from this instance

@OutOnTheMoors it's not easy finding a cookbook with a decent recipe for umber.

@OutOnTheMoors People complain when their food is umber cooked.

@OutOnTheMoors

With umber, it's all about the vintage.

It's not all about the umber roasted, it's also about being umber-aged.

@OutOnTheMoors This explains my inability to acquire any lightly-sautéed umber on recent trips to the art-supplies shop.

@OutOnTheMoors @aronow Well, you have to be careful, because sometimes your umber will hulk out. #TTRPG #DnD

@OutOnTheMoors I'm holding out for sous vide/pan seared umber and smoked umber.

@OutOnTheMoors Yes! There should be a toasted umber.

@OutOnTheMoors@beige.party one of the few things that gets lighter in colour when burned

@OutOnTheMoors
They are keeping the umber-not-burnt-and-not-raw away from you for your own good. It looks like baby poop.

@OutOnTheMoors
I don't know about that raw stuff. Seems kinda shady to me.

@OutOnTheMoors

"Well. Then you gotcher umber, medium rare. And your umber well done. Me, I like it lightly seared and then slow cooked till it's just falling apart..."

And, I just learned that umber's origin means shade or shadow in Latin, which makes a lot of sense when you think about umbrellas.

@OutOnTheMoors

I suppose they tried boiled umber but it was an icky color and did not catch on.

@OutOnTheMoors
We;;;;;;lll there is a ride share company that would take umberage with that remark.
#whoLetTheDadsOut

@OutOnTheMoors I think you're supposed to do some sort of sous vide

@OutOnTheMoors

get a load of beige.party throwing that earth-tone shade

@OutOnTheMoors You don't tend to see cooked sewage either 😉
