Hey all. I neglected to do my intro when I switched instances a week ago. So, here it goes.
I've been on the Fediverse for about a month. I just came over from sloth.run. Some things I like are #music, #badmovies, #timcurry, #startrek, #hashtaggames, #videogames, #naturephotography, and #animals.
If you post something funny, I will boost it if I see it, and I may try to leave you a funny reply. I might fail!
Politics is a topic that I hate and somehow can't stop paying attention to. My political leaning is #liberal #Democrat. I will post and boost news and political topics that are breaking, under reported, and news from my state. I might get a little soap-boxey from time to time or go on a rant. I try to keep that to a minimum.
#Florida is where I call home, so say hello if you are a fellow swamp-dweller! And if you have any #Feditips, send them my way.
@AnotherDayInHell
Regarding bad movies, have you joined us for #Monsterdon yet? I may have missed you.
@joewynne Not yet. I haven't figured out how to get the hashtags that I follow to show up on my home feed. Last Sunday it started without me
@AnotherDayInHell
Tragedy! I do provide support for #Monsterdon access as part of my blood oath to @Taweret. Let me know if you have questions or need any assistance.
@AnotherDayInHell
OK, it looks like you use the regular Mastodon app. To follow a hashtag in Home timeline, first enter it into the Search bar. When it appears in a list, click on it. It opens then in a separate TL. Look at the top of this TL for the "Follow hashtag" icon and click on it. You are now following that hashtag.
BUT, #Monsterdon is busy, so you may want to instead click on the More Options icon, followed by Pin to start its own timeline. Play around with these options.
@AnotherDayInHell trying to get my parents to move to Florida. What would you say are the pros and cons staying there. Obviously politics and schooling are a major turnoff but for them in their 60s I don’t see them caring (they do vote blue but don’t really get involved outside of that).
I'll try to help as best as I can!
The pros of a retired couple moving to Florida:
-Hospitals everywhere
-No state income tax
-Plenty of communities for people 55 years and up that are pretty inexpensive
-Beaches and recreation galore
And now, the CONS:
-The highest inflation in the country
-Terrible transportation infrastructure with few options for those without cars
-Homeowners insurance is way higher than the national average
-It's hot nearly year round
-Traffic sucks and so do the drivers
-Hurricanes and tornadoes
-Tourists
-Rednecks
-Republican politics dominates

@threeforks Nice to meet you! I'm in central Florida. It sounds like you're near there.
@AnotherDayInHell Nice to meet you too. I am 45 miles south from the space center.
@AnotherDayInHell Not from Florida but will say hello
@flakyfred Hi, Fred! Nice to meet you.
