I hate the new year because I keep accidentally writing the year on my checks as 2004 since that's the last time it was acceptable to write a check.
@Alice Just wrote my first check of 2025. I like keeping it old skool.
@Alice I write checks to people whom I don't trust with any ONLINE banking details.
@Jestbill I kind of get it, but it's always baffled me how the checks have the routing and account numbers printed right in them, so you're giving them the same info, anyway, if not more.
@Alice Oh yeah -- my take is that I'm cutting out part of their computer security failures and depending on the drudges who open mail and balance accounts.
I trust "persons" more than "people".
@Alice I still give ppl my account and routing numbers just for nostalgia purposes
@Alice So very century before last it can only be in ‘Murica. I was honestly gobsmacked when a USian friend told me people still use cheques over there.
They’re not even legal here anymore…
I've heard they still have to sign credit card slips.
"U.S. cards typically use chip-and-signature technology, not chip-and-PIN."
I haven't done that anywhere else for years.

@EricLawton @pandanus Most establishments have devices that wirelessly read chips and I personally pay via my watch 99% of the time, but I do occasionally encounter a place that still requires me to swipe and/or sign.
@Alice I write like one check every five years and then move & order new ones.
