@AaronDavid I’ve been a little worried that my AI gf is going to off me at night while I’m sleeping and steal my dog. with one
open now.
@AaronDavid people had staring squares in 1968 too. The newspaper used to take this role.
@AaronDavid @briankrebs
Although this is possibly the first appearance of an all screen tablet device in film, it still missed some of the implications in that newspapers were visible next to the tablets in the scene.
Twilight Zone beat 2001 to the first flat panel non projection display in 1959s Eye of the Beholder, but those were essentially TVs, not tablets.
@AaronDavid pretty sure the AI didn’t kill everyone and was in fact just turned off.
@AaronDavid
They have the same image on the screen though, ie. broadcast.
@nj_kruse @AaronDavid
1968 no cable tv yet.
@AaronDavid Despite the correct quibbles, this is still a funny post!
@AaronDavid
One should consider running N-1 in production.
@AaronDavid
Having been predicted to arrive around 2001, just seven years before the author's passing, it is also a good example of an estimate for a timeline of AGI, arriving usually within the lifespan of the person doing the prediction.
@briankrebs
@AaronDavid So you are saying there is hope we will fix climate change?!
@CustodianV131 When the human race shuffles off this mortal coil, the Earth will breathe a huge sigh of relief
@AaronDavid "I'm Sorry Dave"
@samiamsam "He's dead, Dave, everybody is dead, everybody is dead, Dave."
@AaronDavid To be fair, HAL9000 was in conflict due to malicious tampering with his programming by government officials. Also, I highly recommend the entire 4 book series (2001, 2010, 2061 & 3001:The Final Odyssey) to find out what happens to Heywood, Frank, Dave & HAL9000. I believe you'll find HAL9000 redeems himself.
@walterbobrowski Thank you. I will. I have 2001 and 2010 on DVD. I have 2012 also but not a single bloody spaceship. BTW if you like Red Dwarf, there are four novels which I strongly recommend
And a new three episode are coming in 2025.
@jhulten @walterbobrowski I don't watch anything after series 6. It went badly downhill.
@AaronDavid
And watching a news broadcast in vertical. Come on guys, turn those tablets horizontal.
